Stupid Lime Tricks

These are some of my favorite Lime features. I hope they're yours too!

1. Kill user confirmation needed...repeatedly.
If you try to click on someone who is getting your files--perhaps one who has stalled--AND you have "Clear completed uploads" enabled, you have to run like hell to the kill button before the user to be killed is no longer highlighted. Handy if you keep accidentally killing connections you didn't mean to.

2. Mother Lime knows best.
If you try to set your "Keep approximately X connections up" to something greater than Mamma-Lime thinks is best, she won't let you. You have to set your "Connection Speed" to something faster, THEN set your "Connections" value, THEN set your "Connection Speed" back.
Also, I though my Cable modem was as fast as my provider says it is. I even benchmarked the speed... T1 down, and near T1 up. But Mother Lime tells me that it is actually only a fifth as fast as everyone else says it is. Thank goodness Mamma-Lime corrected me. I might have accidentally allowed people to download from me faster than they actually could! That wouldn't do at all.

3. Don't pull the plug on braindead connections.
If you try to download a file and the connection speed eventually degrades down to 0.0KB/s, Lime makes sure that that connection stays open if at all possible. So long as there's a heartbeat, the unfortunate connection must be preserved. With euthanasia such a controversial subject, it's a good thing Lime won't be the one to pull the plug.

4. Equal opportunities for all.
9600 baud modem users should always be allowed to connect to T3 hosts for as long as they like. Bandwidth discrimination is immoral. It is only fair that affirmative action be taken to help the less fortunate reach 10,000 hosts through a single connection to a broadband user.
Imagine how terrible it would be if modem users could only connect to eachother and to DSL users... DSL users to eachother and to Cable, Cable to T1, and T1 to T3. That would mean broadband users might be able to reach every host on Gnutella in less than 7 hops! Our finely honed abilities to be patient during searches would grow dull. ...and we would have wasted all that effort researching ways to index the network!
