Anyone know what my speed is?

Hi,

this might sound like a really dumb question, but...
my company pays for the internet connection, and i have no idea what speed it should be. I can't ask them, because there is a language barrier.

It uses a LAN connection, so the speed always says 100mbs, but i know its nowhere near this speed.

How can i find out the top speed i can reach?

Thanks, thats great!

my result was 9.2mbps, however, i measured this from japan, i am in korea, will this make any difference?

More importantly; what type of connection is this?

It might make a difference. There might be a local test. I know of others from UK, USA & Australia tht you can check your speed. But then again, I checked my speed at all of those locations & found the difference in speed was minimal. So it's probably reasonably accurate. You can always re-check it. And as with the above link you can test it with other country's test sites.

The one from south korea requires an ID number, and not being korean, i don't have, but japan is pretty close and all.

So is this a T1 connection?

Lord of the Rings December 7th, 2004 10:18 AM

So what is your connection speed supposed to be? Remember that there's always going to be loss of speed with what's known as overhead.

Oh I misunderstood your question. I don't know what qualifies a T1 connection. But I should think that if it's not, it shouldn't be too far off it. Try to google it & post back. I & others I'm sure would like to know also.

t1= > 1.5 MB/s
t3= > 45 MB/s

so i guess i'm a decent t1!

Careful how you write that. I just checked & the minimum speed for T1 is 1.5 Mbits/s not Mbytes!

Here's some more international speed test sites: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/

I just read an article that said, quote: "A T1 has long been the favourite line to host a corporate server on, and the top SDSL speed is the same as a T1, and the top ADSL speeds are a lot faster than T1... you are almost surely not going to be using a server alone, hence you are limited by it, not by your DSL line." http://www.dslreports.com/speed
