Downloading movies takes forever??!!

I am new to downloading movies. I am trying it for the first time and have noticed that after 3 hours I am only at 14% complete with one movie and 11% with another. Does it always take this long to download a full length movie? How can I speed it up? Does it make a difference whether I am trying to download 2 movies at a time or should I only do 1 at a time? I am on LW Basic. Also, when my computer goes into sleep mode does that slow down or stop the download or will it keep going? I don't want to sit at my computer for 10 hours or more. Once I have the movie downloaded will I be able to save it to a dvd using Roxio 6 CD and DVD Creator or will I need a different program. I already have a +/- DVD writer driver built into my computer. Any help to keeping this process fast and simple is appreciated.

Downloading Huge Files

I use LW Pro and I have downloaded files of up to 750MB, which took up to 3 days (and nights).

My worst experience was when I downloaded a rare file that was about 150MB, I kept getting bumped off my download and pushed back into the queue. I understand that some P2P apps can do that, i.e. push your download out of the way.

However, once you understand LW a little better you will find that most of your problems will be caused by other factors in the downloading process, which are outside of LW's control, because LW is really a very good product.

downloading movies

When it comes to downloading movies if there is only one person who has the file you want, the odds are that you will never get the whole file. you have to dl files that lots of people share. The Thing is you are probably searching for a rare title.

Chances are that your computer will use as much in electricity in the 4 days it takes to get a whole movie, as you could have saved and gone out to buy the dvd!!!
My feeling is, downloading movies is a waste of bandwidth and time. Stick to programs and music for the best results.
Just my opinion.

Downloading Movies & Rare Files

Dear Jcuzzo22 & launchpad67a

To a certain extent you are both right, trying to download a rare file that only one person has is a hit and miss affair but I have done it. However, there are times when the computer that holds the file is either switched off or the file deleted, and that puts an end to that.

And, I suppose, it is cheaper to buy a DVD than trying to waste time downloading a poor quality film for four days.

But the great thing about the internet and P2P in particular is that you are given the opportunity and you have a choice.

And that, fellow LW users, is the greatest thing ever.
