Default Syonara -Limewire

Over the past 2 years I become a 'card carrying dues paying limewire bigot'. I would berate the Kazaaite, the WinMxers the IMeshed and the like. In limewire I had found a stable, efficient, userfriendly way to share files w/o POP-UPs spyware and who knows what else. Recently Ive gotten extremely slow d/l speeds, regular crashing or hang ups. I have tried more tricks than a New York hooker. I tried other progams and the had the same problem slow d/l. I had given up hope..........then I discovered ARES it reminded me ofwhen I first used limewire. speed, selection, availability and user-friendly.
Thank you for all the memories.
PS someone needs to get to the root ofthe connction/poor d/l speed problems on the Gnutella networks.....

Sorry to hear LW didn't work out for you. I don't suppose you tried some of the other tricks like control panel-add/remove - option to Repair. Or Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and changed compatability setting to Windows 2000. Or Java 1.5: Java 1.5 (take the JRE) Or deleting LW's Prefs folder called .limewire & found here:
C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

But if it's no longer doing what it used to & you're happy with ARES then good luck! And happy dwnlding.

I am so frustrated tried the above plus "the patch", removing sp2 yada yada yada.. Getting the blazing D/L speed of OK got a peak of 2K. Ares doesnt have the selectionnof LM nor can it do multiple simultaneous searches... I may reinstall the O/S as a last resort

If you're not using your computer for business or a part of the large network, SP2 may not really be necessary for you anyway. If the previous suggestions didn't work then that really is puzzling. Are you a Pro user? You could try an earlier version. I'm not sure where the older pro versions are. But for the free version go here: http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/ or you could try the beta version 4.1 (if you're a pro user there's a link at the bottom of your personal dwnld page): http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml

To know what each version added see here: http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml

Default Problem with the network, or problem with your sys?

I'm running a HP Pavilion 8535, 810, 400 MHZ P2 W/ 256 MB RAM. I just recently reinstalled Windows 98SE after upgrading from the 6 GB HD that was in it originally to a 80 GB HD.

Yes I know..Sounds like a pretty pathetic machine, but I'm able to usually attain download speeds in excess of 30k/s and have downloaded over 10GB of Progs Mp3's and other junk in just three days.

You might want to try editing your registry to increase your performance. The following link from regedit dot com will allow you to boost the speed of your broadband Internet connection when using a Cable Modem or DSL Router with Windows 95, 98 and Millennium Edition. Click Here

Ive found the fastest way to get files is to try a bunch of the same file at once, let them start downloading, choose the faster ones, and kill the slow downloads.

I've had faster downloads from dial up or cable than from T3's more than likely because everyone is trying to download from the faster connection sources.

If you are already using this method of downloading I described and having these problems then I would guess you are either on a really bad connection, or in dire need of an OS reinstall.

Hope that was helpful
