Mis-representation I normally wouldn't waste money on p2p stuff, but I have been trying to find a song (******) and haven't had any luck... after visiting the site and leaving without purchasing, i received an e-mail which had a link to an alledged free search. I did the search, it indicated that the song was available on your system. with no luck anywhere else I paid my money and downloaded this mess y'all call software and did my search again... the exact same search phrase (*****), but now that you have my money the search turns up nothing. with your utter lack of support, how do i go about getting my money back?. |
I'm afraid you been scammed http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28751 |

I got scammed 2....NOT LW's fault!! Got Scammed too!!! BtW...I've been reading about all these scams for paying for your site on LW...then i realized I paid for it too!!!! I found a site called GETFlics...Lifetime membership was $35.88 with a $25 Best Buy gift card...I figuered $10 for lifetime is great...the review for this site (located across from the Empire State Blgd) was rated very high...I didnt know your site was free... but now I see I think I was taken also since your site is free... I went back to Kazaa before LW and was attacked by pop ups all over....had to remove the DL of kazaa... LW is great if I can overcome the bogus ads hidden in the movies and clips....but by reading all these forums i'm learing about the size of files and tricks etc... The music I will try later but should be simple... I also read most of the sites you guys mention in the article on bogus sites...what a list!!! I went back into Google under the Free Movie Downloads I used as a search and there were a ton of scam sites.... My idiot friend got me to put Firefox in a to stop pop ups and I went there to search... Live and learn.... Hope I get the $25 Best Buy Card... I might get arrested if it turns out to be a fake.... haahhhha Great info from you guys.....have read all that I can to fill my eye ... at least for today... |
Thanks koufax07, Thanks for your post!! I knew I'd been scammed but I didn't know the nature of it. I'm a very busy person and I haven't had time to delve into it. Then, with RaaF being so short winded (guess I should've followed the link) and Peerless being barely literate (apparently incapable of much more than name calling), I didn't see much help coming from this arena. You've provided a light in the tunnel. :) My humble apologies to LW. I, too, have found much to appreciate in LW, but have not yet found my song there. I did finally manage to find it on a 45 at VEPO. Guess I'll have to buy it and digitize it. Thanks again. Now that I know the nature of the scam, I know how to fight it.... |
as a follow up I contacted the CCBill ...the place that charged me for GetFlics...they had me for 1 yr instead of lifetime membership...told me i had to contact GetFlics to get my money back since it was done thru them... Told GetFlics it was for a year instead of lifetime and I wanted my money back ... They told me it was for lifetime membership...sorry for the inconvenience... So I wrote back ...i want out anyway since it's under the 30 day money back guarantee... Butttttttttttttttt... I read the small print in the agreement for signing up for this place... Get THIS!!! It said it was $35.88 for a lifetime membershio which was for Tech support on how to burn discs etc and the free download site was thrown in for free (LW) What a way to get around this!! I just replied to them so I'll let you know if I get my money back!! |
You people might be interested in this http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...547#post114547 That's a very interesting article & so many scam sites around. It's just so easy to be tricked. |
The 1st thing to do as is suggested in the link Peerless gave you in the 1st place is to cancel/question the transaction on your credit card/bankcard. Contact your bank asap. |
Re: Mis-representation The developers of LimeWire, or any other Gnutella client, are in no way responsibile for the content that is shared on the gnutella network. If you really need a song that cannot be found with LW, either try again later, or take a walk down to the fu*king store and buy it. If you paid at and downloaded LimeWire from the offical LimeWire site, then you did not get screwed. Also, LimeWire is in no way responsibile for all of the scam sites out there; LimeWire is a FREE program. When you pay for the Pro version you are getting tech support, but it is mosly to support further development of the program. So, if you get screwed on another site take the advice given above, and try not to make the same mistake again. ALWAYS do research on a product before you spend a single dollar, and make sure that the URL is HTTPS when you pay and not just HTTP. Good luck. deepblue |

Maybe now we should have a "Scammed" thread in this forum, it's quite obvious that "therog" had not done his research before he started throwing accusations around. If people want to download digital music there are lots of legitimate organisations, such as Amazon, Napster, Virgin, etc. in the US and here in the UK that will supply you with what you want. It will cost you something per download, less than a US Dollar or a UK Pound, but it is legal. However, if you are looking for unlimited downloads for a one off cost then you will be conned. There is no company or organisation in the world that can offer you an unlimited number of MP3 music for nothing, the copyright holders want to be paid. If “therog” applied a little common sense to his internet searching he would have seen that he was being ripped off. UK Bob |
Let's calm down a bit folks. Question was asked, question was answered. Game over. |

Anyway, as I stated in my third post of this thread, I'll buy the vinyl and digitize it. The quality will not be quite the same but after I clean it up it should suit my client... thanks to all of you for your time and particularly to www.mymusicinc.com for the life lesson. Now if I can just get my money back, I will have gotten that valuable lesson for free:D |
A Hard Lesson Dear therog Just one more point, check that the scammers cannot continually extract money from your method of payment. Learning this lesson is one thing but to be continually ripped off is another. Be safe. UK Bob |
