I just upgraded my Java to 1.4.2_6 and my limewire still keeps closing up on me, so I don't think my Java has anything to do with it. Has anyone with this problem found a solution?

I conducted a search for Limewire in My Computer and I found this file. Maybe a pro can understand this and find the answer to our problems.

Hi jimmy,

Based on the log you posted, it seems there's a problem in the file "vlsp.dll". Some Googling for this file showed that it's what's known as "Layered Service Provider (LSP)" -- a kind of file that intercepts & manipulates network traffic. In many case, LSPs are used by adware & spyware components, but this one appears to be valid. It is used for "V-One Smartpass", related to a Wireless Networking Card. LSPs are very well-known for causing network problems and/or crashes, and this is what appears to be causing LimeWire to fail in your case.

I recommend upgrading your network card drivers (by visiting the manufacturer's website and downloading new drivers), and determing if you need this "V-One Smartpass" LSP. If not, you should remove it.

Let me know if this helps at all.

Thanks.

I did a network diagnostic test and this is what showed up. Can Limewire really be messed up because of my network card?

Yes. LimeWire is, at it's core, a network application.

That question is akin to asking, "Can chocolate chip cookies really go bad if the chocolate chips are bad?"

Which one of these should I download--I certainly don't want to waste my time with all three if I only need one. Also, how do I know if I need that LSP or not?

Hi Jimmy,

All three links are the same, they'll just give you the file from different places. You really should be asking your network card's company these questions. We're not tech support for your computer's peripherals, and we do not know what is and isn't necessary for your computer. All I can say for sure is that the problem is related to the LSP I mentioned earlier. Anything beyond that would be pure speculation, including if it's necessary and/or how to remove it.

~~Sorry~~
I'm not real computer knowledgable, I couldn't distinguish where the LW forum "line" ends and my own personal computer problems enter in. It's not that I was just asking those questions because I was too lazy to find them elsewhere, I am just really confused about certain computer problems. Thanks though! I will contact Realtek and see what they say about the LSP.
