I can't open any files that i've downloaded

I can't open any file that i download, it keeps displaying the message :-
Could'nt open the file "XXXXX" because a software component needed by the movie could not be found.

I am running XP with service pack 2

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Get yourself some codecs: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html

OR a player with inbuilt codecs & plays all except the odd WMV file: VLC (is Free - click on link & choose nearest mirror site) OR another player like DivX player.
