Database Preparation

Sometime last year a friend told me about LW. About a week ago I finally decided to install LW Pro on my XP Pro SP1 machine. All is running well.

But I was lazy about the database I built for sharing. I simply copied all my MP3 CDs to a folder. That was about 3,500 files. I didn't change any of the cryptic file names and not did I ensure that every MP3 file had the correct song name in the ID3 tag.

What/how does LW scan my/a database and take from it the pertinent data to make searching useful to all the users?

Is there a command or a tool that will show me how LW views my song database?

Is there a simple way to see what has been uploaded over the last week or so?

The point or problem is that half of my file names are cryptic. They only mean something to me. If LW tries to use the filename as the song name its SOL. On the other hand the song title in the ID3 tag is almost always accurate.

So it is not clear which is used to build the database that is exported. Looking at the library does what explorer does and in addition displays the ID3 tag. I'm not sure I can make any assumptions abut what is exported.

I'm willing to change the filenames but only if I have to. Should I ask LW abort this?
