ok i bought a new computer and i want to get all my music files from my old computer to my new computer, i already dled LW on new comp

Networking them would be the best way. Either that or burning them to disk (cd/dvd), else a more painful way would be a portable disk like a zip or even a floppy harhar! You could use an iPod if you have one.

If you're wanting to move the workings of LW including the incomplete files. Then you should copy the entire folder across to the new computer. The download.dat & bak files within the incomplete folder are the download preferences so you'd need to transport those as well. As for LW, just re-install it on the new one.

Do both your computers have ethernet cards?

(by the way please don't double-post! eg: posting the same topic elsewhere)

Lord of the Rings February 8th, 2005 02:20 PM

If you have an external HDD then that's ideal. Xcuse my ignorance but I don't know what a jump drive is (is it for emergency startup or something?)

A memory stick is one way. You just copy the files across to it. ANd then copy to the 2nd comp from the stick. Then worrying about getting them into your player is a secondary issue.

Thanks LotR. :D

Once you get the ethernet card hooked together with your cable.

Both Comps up and running. In WindowsXP you should have a file tranfer wizard let me go look. 1) start 2) all programs 3) accessories 4) system tools 5) files and settings tranfer wizard.

It should guide you through a step by step process for doing this.

I believe this can also be done through a modem connection using a regular telephone line hooked between the 2 comps.
Provided both comps have a modem.
