Default Adware????

Alright, I've trusted LW for many months for being a safe, non-virus infected program. But now I'm getting popups like every minute for random ads, and my computer is acting all slow. I did an anti spy scan with my anit spy program, and it said LW was a threat of Adware. I'm not so sure if I want to delete LW yet, so does anyone know what I should do?

Yes. LW is also open source: www.limewire.org , compile it yourselft, look at the code, whatever: no spywares or adwares.

Default Anti-Spam - Anti-Spyware

Bosnianheat26

Spam and spyware are two different things, spam is basically unwanted e-mail, usually sent out by a bulk mailer, and spyware is a small program or text file that notes what you do on your PC and secretly reports back to it's owner (which is not you).

So when you scanned your PC looking for spyware with an anti-spam application you weren't really doing anything useful.

As for LW (I use LW Pro 4.1.1), it does not have any spyware in it, and the comment from Peerless about MS AntiSpyware (Beta) software refers to older versions that said LW had spyware. This has now been corrected, the latest version does not report any spyware in LW.

I downloaded spybot, and got deleted all the spyware that spybot located, and I still get random pop ups even when my browser isn't open. The only other thing left is limewire.

The problem is internet explorer and windows.

1)get firefox instead of IE
2)switch to mac or Linux soon!

I feel sorry for you as 95% of the internet community.

Default Pop Ups

Dear Bosnianheat26

There are two types of pop-ups, the ones generated by spyware or planted programs and the ones allowed in by Windows Messenger, which is turned on by default (upon installation).

Windows Messenger was originally designed for network administrators to send messages to their network clients but the side effect of being on the internet is that WM sees it as one big network and you as the client. So any miscreant can broadcast an internet message and WM will relay that unwanted message to you.

The way to get rid of these unwanted messages is to switch WM off, which is not clear cut or easy. I downloaded Ad-aware SE, from Lavasoft, and use it's specially made (for the purpose) plug-ins to switch WM off. Now I do not suffer with WM relayed pop-ups anymore.

Hope this helps
