Accidental deletion of my library

I somehow mistakingly deleted half of my library in Limewire. The files were removed from their location. Is there any way to get them back???? Thanks.

Lord of the Rings February 21st, 2005 09:32 PM

They were removed how? If they were moved then move them back! lol If you accidentally stopped sharing files then go to LW's Library then menu File>Add Folder to Share

If you pressed the Delete button from the library then stop everything. Close LW & stop writing to your HDD. You'll need a file recovery utility. Norton Utilities does a good job. Others are around.

Here's some links I quickly found: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/search...der=descending

I just did a search at downld.com & free ones are here: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0-...49&dlsize=&ca=

Thanks so much.

Sorry I didn't think to search there 1st, it was an after-thought. The 1st on the list 'PC Inspector File Recovery' sounds ok. Though it may crash it does the job & is free. Read the reviews.

Good luck! ;) :)

help I deleted my files too

I just deleted all my files from my library and saved files list...I downloaded the recovery utility suggested but don't know how to use and what to do from here...is anyone online and able to help??? I lost like 500 songs I downloaded in the last couple of days...sooooooo sad!!!

Lord of the Rings February 23rd, 2005 01:52 PM

Under the reviews given for that program the instructions are not so good. But if you go to the program menu & choose Help you can find better help advice there.

tms February 23rd, 2005 02:12 PM

well, I played around w/ it for a while, but I'm not finding my music files anywhere...I had erased them in limewire after transferring to itunes...I didn't know that the file wouldn't stay in itunes...just a real bummer b/c I have spent WAY too much time the last few days getting loads of really fun songs...any suggestions of where I might look for the files?

Lord of the Rings February 23rd, 2005 02:22 PM

It depends on how you add them to iTunes. If you used the Add to Library function within iTunes (Control & O) then it will copy the songs to its own library. Most other techniques require use of the Consolidation of Library function under iTunes' Advanced menu. See: iPod & iTunes Sticky (click on link) So double-check. Even use your search engine; Start menu>Search for files & folders.

As for your file uneraser, I'd suggest you try Drive C if that's where you were saving them to using LW.

AFI1307 March 13th, 2005 01:20 PM

Which Progam?

What file recovery program did you use? I tried Pc inspector and I found all my files and recovered them but when I try to play them it only plays like a few seconds of the song or video. Am I doing something wrong or what?
I also tried file scavenger and it did the same thing.

Lord of the Rings March 13th, 2005 05:41 PM

AFI1307 if 2 file recovery utilities end up with the same results then it sounds like you've written over portions of your hard disk drive since you deleted the files. These files might not be the ones you accidentally deleted from the library but deleted at an earlier time after you'd finished with them so just continue with the recovery process until it's finished. Also don't use LW or other programs that write to the HDD until you've finished the recovery process. Otherwise you'll minimise the chances of a successful recovery. Also recover them to a different HDD or partition or storage device.

Hey, this is Hakeem, I use limewire, my operating system is windows 2000...This is my situation, I had alot of media downoalded in my LW Library and all the downloaded files were shared in a "limewire" folder in my "c" drive..it was shared with, the folder wa in my C drive.

I have'nt use it for a few weeks so when I got on to limewire today i was surprised to see that there was a problem with accessing my library on limewire, or rather there was a corruption of some kind with my shared "limewire" folder..It wanted me to reconfigure my folder options....apparently it seems all the music in my limewire folder is gone, i looked in my recycle bin and its not there...no idea what could have happenned..does anybody have any ideas as to how to find them or get them back?.Also
there is no music on my "my music" folder either...

when i try to access my library on limewire it says i need to "reconfigure" my folder, than it leads me to a page where i add folders to where my downloaded music will go but even when i changed to "my music" theres still nothing there...when i click on the "share" tab where my library should open up it says "you can configure folders u share in limewire options"

so when i click on the tab "configure" it brings me to a small menu where i add or remove folders to put my music in, but there is nothingin my "limewire" folder where my music is supposed to be...wierd huh?......is it possible it just lost everything?..i tried searching my computer for some of the songs i dowloaded recently but nothing is found....would deleted recovery programs work if theres nothing in my recycle bin and if I'm not the one who deleted anything?

Any Links to sites that can help or suggestions will be greatly apreciated..Thanx everyone

Answered via PM; As long as you did not press the Delete button you are ok. It just means the save location has changed to default. Best thing to do is use your computer search function to find which folder they are in, then reselect that folder as the save folder under Tools > Options> Saving. Perhaps see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...downloads.html

However, if you did press the Delete button, then you will need a file recovery program. I'd suggest stop using any program on your computer until you recover the files so they will not be overwitten. See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...ry-advice.html

Hello, I accidentally deleted about 800 songs off limewire and when i went to the recovery site they recover the work but you have to pay for it once they found it. Does anybody know were I can find an absolute free site?

Lord of the Rings December 3rd, 2008 12:29 PM

Links in the last link in my post above ... file recovery advice. ;) Some free programs there. :)

Restoration used to be better than PC Inspector, but others posted about since. :)
Important thing is to try not write to that same partition on your hard disk drive until after you try recovering the files. ;)

CollegeBoy12345 December 3rd, 2008 12:52 PM

Can you tell me which ones are free because ever one i go tries to charge me before letting me save it and pc inspect isnt doing anything. thanks

Lord of the Rings December 3rd, 2008 02:08 PM

Restoration - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com erm you didn't check through the links very well. :p

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File Recovery - Home (should do the trick)

I think you're just lazy. :p

Initial free use: Recover Lost data RecoverMyfiles

samboy December 4th, 2008 05:17 PM

have u used the file recovery software urself?

Lord of the Rings December 4th, 2008 05:22 PM

Me? I use a mac, and yes I have on the mac many times. I used Norton Utilities & their equivalent which was very good. However it is a commercial program. (Unfortunately Norton no longer supports the newer OSX versions, their support stopped at OSX 10.3)

Getting rid of orgasm download

I can't get rid of a download. I selected all in the download and the orgasm download that is at the top of every search won't let me delete it. Is it infected or getting my info? How do I get rid of it?

Try unsharing it first, right-click & choose stop sharing. Also check these tips Incomplete Download File won't delete at all (click on link)

i am in same deep **** i deleted my lime wire songs but i cant play them now in itunes

birdy January 11th, 2009 07:20 PM

You can delete files from LW's library after they've been added to the iTunes library (remember that the 'limewire tunes' playlist in iTunes doesn't contain the music files) as long as the file is still saved somewhere on your computer. If you don't want the files in LW's library any more, you can save them into a different folder somewhere (make a new folder).
Or, in iTunes go Edit > Preferences > Advanced. Tick the box to copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library > ok. Now songs will be saved to your iTunes Music folder when you add them to the iTunes library & you can delete those files from LW's library.
Adding Content to iTunes
When you delete from LW's library - use the option to send files to the recycle bin... that way, you can restore the files if you run into problems!!

If you just delete files from LW's library & don't make sure that they're saved somewhere on your computer - iTunes won't be able to find the files & then you'll see the ! symbol;)
