Class not registered/Codecs

Could someone please tell me all you can about class not registered, how to fix this, and anything you can about codecs?

I haven't had the codec thing in a while, but thought it might be pertinent to someone out there. The class not registered thing is really annoying so I was hoping to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for your help.

It means you don't have the correct codecs. Get codecs here: http://www.land.ee/d_nimo_codec.html OR else here: http://www.click-now.net/html/K-LiteCodecPack.htm

Else get a backup player like DivX player or VLC which has built-incodecs & is free: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (choose nearest mirror site)

Codecs

Do you think I'll be more suceptible to virus, corrupt files, or anything of that nature? I mean don't normal files run on normal means. I'm thinking (I'm sure it's wrong) that if it's this much work, it's probably not good. More advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Problem is players like wmp do not have much in the way of codecs that come with it. That's why you need to downld other codecs for it to play the other formats of video. Personally I think wmp sucks (xcuse the language.) That message you saw is a WMP error directly out of their own error codes. I can find a link if you like but I don't think it's necessary. Imagine if you use a player like VLC instead you'd never even have to think about this.

Thanks for all the info. I've used the second link you gave me. The full version download of codecs is downloading as we speak. Thanks for your help.

As far as getting viruses from video files ... stay away from wmv & wma files. They are the only video format that allows for xtra info to be added. Have a look at RaaF's post about wma files here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=31862

media files

So you highly suggest that you strictly limit the file extensions and not go with the automatic default of everyone of them? If so, which do you think a person should stick with if they are only downloading video files such as music videos, movie clips, and porn?

Lord of the Rings February 28th, 2005 01:57 AM

From what I hear there's lots of wmv files that are porn. If you are after porn then stick with it. For movies as in full movies, stick with avi & mpg/mpeg since these tend to be the best in quality & most reliable (unless you can only find what you're after in wmv format.) Films should be CD size (ie: 500-700 MB) avi's & particularly the divx tend to be very good, they can be good resolution yet smaller than the others in size or same size but better quality.

K-Lite Codec Pack

I finally have it all downloaded after a series of issues with my pc. Anywho.....now most of the icons for the files have the K-Lite Setup icon in front of most of the files, except for a few WMP icons. Is there any way of changing this back, so I can see the WMP icons like before? This will be the last time tonight I bother you with anything. Thanks greatly for your patience, knowledge, and diligence in keeping me abreast.

K-Lite Codec Pack

Ok, one last thing....

The file I previewed that wouldn't play before now only plays audio and its using my original classic WMP. Do you know how to fix any of this??
