!!!i Hate People That Don't Share!!!

If u don't share on limewire and still expect to download something then i say that i'll kill that download and ne download that u try to get from me!!!

You should NOT be usin LIMEWIRE if u are NOT prepared to share what u have!!!

fabion March 4th, 2005 11:51 AM

Hmmm It would be nice if you registered, but have you thought that some of these people may be newbies, as we were once, and don't know how to share yet or they may just not have any files to share yet. It could also be that they have the set number files to share somewhat high to not be considered a freeloader.

I share what I have, but I do kill u/ls to leechers (not part of the G network) and remove them from my connections. I also filter the hosts IP, but this also has a side effect as the IPs may change and a bonified G network client may get that IP, and be filtered. So I remove the IPs from the filtered list every now and then.

Don't be so hateful --- There is enough of that in this world as it is.

Bardock March 4th, 2005 01:41 PM

You make a good point... but i do think that most people do know how to share and still choose not too!

I share and help as much as i can. I sit and wait sometimes for hours d/l a program, movie or music file just to find that some not all, are not the files that i thought i was d/l. Why do people do that. I then also rename those files and make it so that other people know what file they are d/l.

Bardock March 4th, 2005 01:52 PM

Hey i took your advise and registered

Lord of the Rings March 4th, 2005 02:02 PM

You can set the no. of minimum files a person must share by going to Tools>Options>Advanced>Preferencing (But the slider doesn't work!)

Just b/c you can't browse somebody's files doesn't mean they aren't sharing. There's many reasons & some unknowns why people can't be browsed. Generally having Chat enabled helps to browse or direct connect with somebody. You'll notice that generally in the monitor window only those that have the chat enabled are the ones you can successfully browse. For more about chat enabling & dc see: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=30911

Just a few thoughts.
Well I think some people download files with no names at all and guess at the artist (sometimes way out) or title or whatever and it's a genuine mistake. If those that download them don't realise or even don't bother to correct it then that's another wrongly named one on the network! Some I think also try to disguise what they are sharing (you never know who is watching).
If you download something with the wrong name and don't delete it, please remember to change it and if you have a poor file - add "dud" or "broken" to the name so the rest of us don't get it (he says after several attempts to download something and every one has the same fault in the same place - all clones of each other).

trash

its not so much that people dont share that ****** me of but the fact that they share trash ,as in corrupted, misnamed, fake and otherwize garbage files. im an audiophile and i d/l lossless wav files and i have to weed out all the crap from the ones that are "true" sometimes d/ling 5 or more different copys of the same song. to find one that is good. and by crap i mean wavs that were made from mp3s . i think that some people think that converting an mp3 to a wav makes it sond better.....IT DOSENT ...IT DOSENT SOUND ANY BETTER THAN THE MP3!!! .wavs should be made onley from the origanal CD! thers enought crap out ther from the riaa allredy so we shouldent be shitting in our own nest ...so to speak.

hillneerg March 6th, 2005 03:06 PM

I am not trying to defend these people but, many of them are doing this unknowingly I think. Instead of sharing folders with the good stuff in them, they share far too many and, like you, they have downloaded rubbish - where they go wrong is they forget to delete them (possibly they want to keep them as that's the only one they could get) . Do a browse on them and I think you will find many are sharing all sorts of stupid things off their PC - I men, who wants to download cookies and icons from their programs??????
Please SORT OUT YOUR FOLDERS, make sure that what you are sharing is of a good quality (shove them in another folder if they are not - and not a sub folder, Limewire has access to them if they are in a shared folder.
Dump the faulty stuff and share stuff people want.
Of course, don't forget those that want to stop p2p - they have loads of dud files (deliberate) available just to gunge up the works.

clt5910 March 6th, 2005 03:49 PM

Sometimes I see files with the same amount of size and same writing style (like all caps). Are those fake files?

Lord of the Rings March 6th, 2005 11:19 PM

Some very good points in this thread!

clt5910: no capitals don't 'necessarily' mean they're corrupt.

leechers

i can see the point for newbies not knowing this i have been myself , the ones whom are the most concerning art the socalled experianced ones whom block chat or stop you from browsing ther files, they also tend to keep comeing back till the get what they want dispite your eforts to converse with them  i do belive in shareing and like to offermore but not to freeloaders whom wont return the good will that this network was originaly here for, If your not willing to participate in this principal dont bother whinging when your blocked off the network! just for the rcords i do share with newbys with 0 shred if the chat back to me i am happy to seeto the honest ones get there desires meet :)

ImSteve April 4th, 2005 11:07 AM

red dwarf...this the second post Ive read from you in the last 2 minutes and they say the same thing. We understand you hate leechers...no need to repeat it

lassie April 4th, 2005 03:55 PM

how about a 'charter' showing an Ideal Minimum set of files to share; a guide something like this:-

Ideal Minimum Share Charter

1. 20 music files
2. 2 films
3. 10 pieces of popular software

Of course many share much more than this.

Also, maybe LW should be made only to work with a mimium share.

I sort of agree with this too. But then, lots of users start out with nothing & then share what they've downlded. But having it as a recommendation & stressing the point this is a p2p sharing program would also help. ALso that some people don't like leechers or freeloaders.

jebhavlik April 6th, 2005 03:51 PM

I am a newbie and I have no idea how to share. Please enlighten me because I have a mess of cd's I would like to share. Is it as simple as copying them to the "Share" folder that Lime set up at registration?

Bosnianheat26 April 6th, 2005 04:02 PM

I stopped sharing, maybe it'll reduce the chance of being caught, so what if i'm a freeloader, its not against the rules

Lord of the Rings April 6th, 2005 04:08 PM

Where you live? Is it even illegal to share copyright material where you live. If it is then why not share non-copyright material. If nobody shared then how would p2p work?

jebhavlik I presume you have a cd burner or mp3 audio extractor. If not, people might be able to suggest a whole rane of mp3 tools to do the job.
Might I suggest you try iTunes which will convert the songs to mp3 or m4a for you & can play & burn cd's: Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes iTunes will also keep your music very well organised; artist>album folders; eg: Albumwrap/iTunes

Then after extracting your music (or before), go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Sharing & press the Add button & direct it to the iTunes Music folder to select this to share. Alternatively go to LW's Library window then menu File>Add Folder to Share, & direct it to where your folders to share are (eg: below)

Files sharing

I have been trying out Limewire version after version. Now I have just downloaded version beta 4.9.4. When it was first installed, it download just fine but only for 1 or 2 minutes. The speed was OK at first then it goes down straight to 0. I do not know what happen. I have been reading the forum trying to find answers. I wish to share my files but unfortunately all my files are between 2% to 50%. :(

If you are serious I hope you get blocked by every one you want to freeload off. If your tounge is in you cheek, have a nice day.

jsooiz July 16th, 2005 10:10 AM

As I was saying about sharing my files, I have to copy some files from my friends so that I can put them into the "shared" folder. Now I am sharing about 16 files (which I copied from my friends) but the download is still just as bad. No improvement. Help me?!

Explorer8939 August 12th, 2005 06:28 PM

I likewise kill downloads from IP addresses that don't share.

Only A Hobo August 12th, 2005 07:12 PM

This is the thread that anyone you thinks they shoud block host all "freeloaders" should read.

CyberStalker August 12th, 2005 07:23 PM

How do you know if someone is a freeloader? I've been told that sometimes a person cannot be browsed because of possible firewalls.

Only A Hobo August 12th, 2005 07:29 PM

you don't .... You are right

Hey That plant of yours is doing my head in. I can look at it for hours wierd

I wish I could grow them to be large enough to gobble up people. There are some people on another message board that I would love to see get digested alive by one of these plants. Tee Hee!:p Sorry if what I said was unacceptable but if you were to see how these people behave you would understand why I feel the way I do about them.

sharing

i agree with you completely, but what do you think about those that limit the upload speed to maximise their download speed on a slow 56K dial-up internet connection?

do you know if increasing the upload speed can increase the download speed? from what i have read of limwire, in theory it does, but have u seen practical proof of this?:D

Lord of the Rings August 14th, 2005 07:53 AM

Dial up is the exception to the rule. Since upld & downld use the same bandwidth, you need to balance the 2. Even if it's very low, people are still often able to get acceptable results from dial up users when there's multiple users with the same file so they get a bit from each of them.
