dvd burn problem from download

I downloded a movie (avi) and saved it to windows movie player, when i went to burn it said an error had occured, the player could not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file. I am fairly new to computers and i dont know what this means, i have a basic pc useing windows xp with a intel celeron processor/ 256mb/ 80gb. I would really appreciate a reply as i want to download more films but i want to burn them off. Thanks.

You're burning a DVD movie disk using WMP? I didn't know it was possible. If you're after xtra codecs then try either of these 2: http://www.land.ee/d_nimo_codec.html OR http://www.click-now.net/html/K-LiteCodecPack.htm OR even http://www.free-codecs.com/ (not a bad site this one!)

Well not to bad mouth WMP10 to bad, but it sucks. It doesn't work well.

It has also interfered with other programs I had. I uninstalled it and use WMP9 when I have to.

I would get a different burning application. Nero and Roxio both do well on WindowsXP.

You can "goggle" for them. They both have trial versions you can d/l, and see if you like them.

Just my opinion about WMP10, from the experiences I've had.

Other members or mods may have a different perspective.
