Correcting Song Details

Every now and then I find a song for downloading that has the wrong artist...I don't mean misspelled, I mean dead wrong. Example: Search for "Black Fly Song" and you usually get files listing "Stan Rogers", the late great Canadian folkie. But he never did that song and the voice you'll hear is actually that of the composer, Wade hemsworth, an earlier booming voice from canada.

So the question is: once this kind of error gets travelling around where can you go to tell people of the mistake and, better yet, how can you post a correction that lasts (I find that with that Black Fly Song the wrong information sticks to the file even if I manually change the info for my own use.

Another mistaken attribution - Bogle not McDermott

(I seem to be replying to myself but still feel that it is wrong for songs to move around on LimeWire that have the wrong artist or otehr details, so I guess I'll just start posting whenever such mistakes come to light).

This morning I downloaded "Green Fields of France" which came up as by John McDermott. The version that downloaded was not him at all - it was Eric Bogle, who actually wrote the song and who has a very different, much rougher edged singing voice than the famed Irish tenor. :(

Songs have incorporated 2 naming systems. One is the filename & the other is the ID3 Tag. If one is correct but the other incorrect, then you can change whichever is incorrect. If both are incorrect then of course you'd need to change both. Bitzi Lookup is good for checking certain types of files however I don't think they have any or many songs on their database.

So when you find a song by a search, check both the filename & hover your cursor over the top of the listing in the search results to check the ID3 tag is also the same. If both are incorrect, then ... lol not much I can say.

You could perhaps try to double-check upon songs by searching the artist in one search, & searching the title in another & cross-matching them. The ID3 tag will show how long the song goes for (that's hoping it does have a tag.) That's probably the best I can think of unless someone else has ideas.

BTW keep in mind that searches via LW will find either or both the filename & details of the ID3 Tag! And it can sometimes only take one word such as composer or artist to show up in results. Some people will note in the ID3 tag that it's a such & such cover song.

If you think that's bad try searching for classical music. Alot of people seem to think that Mozart and Beethoven wrote everything, nothing by Dvorac or Wagner.

Many of the songs purporting to be by Buddy Holly are not by Buddy Holly: "I Fought The Law" for example is Bobby Fuller, "Rock Around The Clock" is clearly Bill Haley; there are many others wrongly attributed to Buddy Holly.
