ok i looked at the links they showed and im more confused than ever lol. and yes i didnt pay attention to it being a peer not a keeper. its been one of those days i think. anyway it says im a leaf. i still dont get what the peers are for. so are they making my downloads faster or slower or what? i have a dsl connection 256k. somewhere in the options it says you can disable it. does that mean disable me being one or having them on my limewire. i have the pro version of limewire. thanks for any help.

This is my basic understanding of the role of Ultrapeers on the Gnutella Network, correct me if I'm wrong. An Ultrapeer is a host computer running any Gnutella client. This host usually has a high speed Internet connection, and acts as a gateway to the rest of the network. That Ultrapeer you connect to is conneted to 20+ other peers, those peers are connected to other Ultrapeers, and so on. You can clearly see the almost unlimited extent of a network of that sort. That is basically how you get search results, and find the IP of the host machine you want to download from. When you act as an Ultrapeer your bandwidth usage and CPU usage usually go up. If you have the bandwidth to act as an Ultrapeer you should do so. But if you have somewhat limited bandwidth, like me, you may want to disable the option. I hope this helps.

ok thanks that i understand. so is my connection fast enough to be a peer? at 256 k? it shows that you can add a peer , is that a good idea or how do you find them? sorry for so many questions i just want to have it work the best.

Your connection is probably fast enough for you to act as an Ultrapeer. And LimeWire connects to peers all on its own. You don't have to do anything. Good luck.
