Uploads ending at 100%

Every once in a while I look at my uploads. Of every 100, there might be 2 or 3 AT MOST that finish at 100%. About 50% end at 0, and 90% end in single digits. Why is this? I never disconnect.

Is 15% or so downloaded from me, then 15% from another user?

You are most likely just one of many hosts that are sharing that file.

What happens is the downloading host only gets that part of the file that is needed from you. The other parts are gotten from the other hosts sharing that that file. This is what is refered to as the swarming effect.

It is the same when you d/l from many host that have the same file. You get pieces of the file from each host, thus decreasing the the amount of time to d/l the file.

That's right .. it can be a bit confusing to figure out at times b/c most people downld from multiple sources. So you might be just one of 2 or one of 20 for example.

Just to make sure you're not firewalled & these people are only uplding from you using a push request, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image If your result is True then that's fine.

Ouch .. sorry Fabion beat me.

"Received Incoming This Session: false" is what it says

OK then it looks as though they might be uplds dropping off b/c they can't maintain the push request. So you are firewalled. If you configure your firewall to allow LW full access you'll get many more uplds.

You should configure your firewalls to allow LW full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

or if you use Norton IS: Configuring Norton Internet Security

Do more uploads benefit me? I know that in Kazaa the most uploads= the higher your download request was, but is the same true w/ Limewire?

The 2 programs are different. But yes, uplds greatly benefits by improving connectivity thru other people resulting in better search & downld results. After I open LW I have people uplding from me within 3 mins from the moment of opening despite it takes 9 mins from 'my' LW to load & load incompletes & another 9 mins to load all the shared. Odd how they can upld from me before LW has indicated to me it's loaded the files. lol :D But as a result of having people uplding from me, I can just leave my LW & it usually looks after itself; ie: within 40 mins there will be a file that continues downlding without any help. I don't even do searches or use resume/find sources on many an occasion but have continued downlds.

Some hints:
A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.
