Different band but same singer.

I might be imagining this but i swear that I just listen to the song Under the Boardwalk , by the bands(Drifters,Four Tops,Temptations and Platters) and each has the SAME singer.
Why are there songs on LimeWire that are sang by the same singer but have different bands supposedly as the orignal from bands.

I Love Rock and Roll is by Joan Jett, but there are many versions by AC/DC even though they did not sing it

Dream on is by Qerosmith, not Led Zeppelin

1 person misnames it, another downloads from then, and then there are 200 versions that have the wrong artist.

Google the song to see the real artist.
