Help! Please

Well I have a problem. When I start LimeWire everything goes as it should and connects until it is said "Excellent" at the bottom. Then afterwards I proceed to search. However my mouse doesn't react to anything what so ever on the LimeWire screen. My mouse goes over it and the highlighting of such tabs as "search" are made but when I press there is nothing.

This goes for everything, such as File and the rest of the tool bar. I have to do everything on the keyboard and that is when it becomes tricky.

I can't essentially download anything on the fact that I can search basically because I can simply type it in. That is the only thing the mouse can do. Press in the searching engine text coding and allow me to type.

I search, however, I can't press the file I want to download because my mouse doesn't respond to anything.

What should I do?

Lost focus?

I need more detail, but it sounds like a warning message of some sort has poped up underneath your LW window and stolen the focus.

Frequently, many warning boxes won't let you do anything else until you respond to them, which would explain why you can't simply click on the LW window and get the focus back.

If this is the case, try to minimize LW to see if there is an alert box underneath (two ways to minimize, either from the window itself or right-click the programs' Task Bar button and select "Minimize"). Don't use the "Show Desktop" Quick Launch icon, as it will minimize the alert too.

Or hit Alt-Tab to see if any other processes are running (not Task Manager) and switch to them to see if they are prompting you for anything.

More info is really needed to know exactly what is going on, but since nothing is locking up (mouse does not freeze), this is your most likely cause.

What sort of...

What sort of information do you need. All I can tell you as of now is that the tabs aren't reacting to my mouse. I've done the ATL + TAB and cut off the other things so that their wasn't anything hidden behind and still the problem proceeds.

see here for examples of the kinds of details people need http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...p?s=&forumid=7

Mostly:

o Are there any other programs running at the same time?

o Do you auto-launch LW at startup or start it manually from a desktop icon or Programs menu?

o Is this a "new" problem (it used to work fine until recently) or is this a fresh install?

And of course, the regular info of OS, free-space on the C: drive (*and* the drive LW is installed on if not C:, etc).

It didn't change anything in the end. :(

Well it's a Windows

And it's not a start-up program
The problem is a fresh installed one
And I'm not quite certian if there is any other programs running other than Internet since I'm a cable user.

Running

What is also always running is Nortin Internet Security and all the other basic things that a computer needs to run as a program

Rundll32
Systray
Ccap

and like I said
Explorer

I don't think you understood exactly the kind of info I need, so I'll make a few assumptions:

You are probably running Windows XP (Home or Pro, doesn't matter), and you don't have LimeWire set to auto-load when Windows starts. You said there are/were other programs running when you tried ALT+TAB, and switched to each and closed them, so I'm assuming none of them were giving an error message that you had to answer first, and they were all programs you recognized.

When you run LW and this happens, is the Title Bar faded (indicating it does not have the focus)? And how do you usually get out when this happens? Do you just select Reboot from the Start Menu or do you Close LW some other way?

If LW is not set to auto-load at startup, then you need to close all other programs first before starting LW to ensure there is no conflict. If it is loosing the focus, then another program is taking control... very possibly Adware or a virus.

Make sure every non-essential process (except Norton) is unloaded or disabled before you launch LW to see if this changes anything. If not, it is possible Norton Anti-Virus itself is at fault, battling an agressive piece of Adware that it can't eliminate from the system (if you are daring, you can disable Norton too and see if a bunch of Spam pops up after infecting your system. Then use anti Adware software to clean it.)

Try everything (except disabling Norton) first to see if it helps. If not, depending on your Windows comfortability level, you should boot into Safe Mode and have Norton perform a deep scan of all of the files on your PC. It should recognize any adware as a virus, and even if it deletes it, it'll keep coming back.

If NAV does find something, let me know for the next step.

Checking if what you said works right now
