You shouldn't get spyware from Limewire! You might be getting it from a file you downloaded through Limewire(Maybe)? Or you have a trojen/cookie that attached itself to LimeWire. Also it is not a good idea if a person downloads Limewire from an untrusted source, because this source can add any program along with Limewire and then both would be installed.

I suggest trying Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal from:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Iv'e been using AD-Aware for years now and it works perfect. It has very good reviews. Also everybody that I know uses it and they just love it! The Personal adition is also freeware so it won't cost you anything.

Cheers
:)

adware does clean my computer but thats about it and when i download limewire i do it from the official site.

Now what do you think is the official site of LimeWire?

TheTakeover June 8th, 2005 08:14 PM

limewire.com of course

Right, that's correct. Well, I'd say your scanner is simply paranoid and detects every Gnutella software - maybe because it uses port 6346? - as malware. You should either read the documentation to verify that or contact the vendor and ask about that.

Might I also suggest you get Spybot - Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html (FREE)

And to add to the tool list you might also consider:
Peerguardian: http://peerguardian.methlabs.org/pg2.html (FREE) which will detect any organisations trying to access your port 6346 & block them.

Adware, Spybot & Peerguardian I'd recommend as safe utilities to use with LW. Many others don't work properly or have spyware themselves lol :D Magnet links are sometimes seen as spywares so the above utilities should not give you incorrect findings. But make sure your utilities are up to date. ;)

(Oh by the way, some other p2p share programs do have either spyware or adware. LW does not!)
