How can i turn AVI file into MPG file

Hello all: I would like to know why most movies come in AVI formant and how can i convert an AVI movie into a MPEG or MPG movie?? Because my computer has been having some problems with the AVI files

You need to get a software program to covert the files or you need to get a player that reads .avi files. For the program, I reccomend looking at www.download.com and for the player I reccomend WinAmp. Good luck.

REAL-Player its supposed to play AVI files, but my REAL-PLAYER doesn't play them

REAL-Player its supposed to play AVI files, but my REAL-PLAYER doesn't play them. so what do u think i should do?? My real software it's supposed to play AVI movies but it can't. Do u think i need some codecs? What can i do then?
