THERE"S SOMETHING that SHOULD not be there...there i know it sounds confusing but recently(yesterday) i started up lime wire and an extra folder appeared called "Uploads" and i seach my computer and NO folder on my c:\ drive that has a folder named that and i don't want the folder could someone help me plz |
After you set up the LW options when you 1st install or 1st open LW, there's 3 folders that will be created. One is the LW preferences folder which is called .limewire & is usually found here for windows users: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire The 2nd folder is your downld folder & is whatever you called it. By default it's called Shared. And is usually by default anyway, located here: C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared The 3rd folder is called incomplete. Which of course is where your partially downlded files are stored until they reach 100% by which time LW will move them to your downld folder. Also located in this folder is your downld preferences called download.dat & bak (these should normally never be touched!) The incomplete folder is always stored at the same directory level as your downld folder. There's a folder within your LW Library window which is called Saved Files but this is really a psuedonym for your LW downld folder. It is there so you can view your downlds even if you're not sharing your downld folder. If you have a folder called Uploads, then where is it located? Where did you see it? |
Its a virus!!! I had this problem yesterday and it took ages to fix, I discoverd i was suddenly shareing 1500 more files from a new folder called uploads. The uploads folder is well hidden and i could only find it by typeing in c:\uploads into execute command,it contained just over 1500 zip files all with different innocent names but all where 434k. Ad adware would detect it and delete it but it would return when i rebooted.spybot didnt detect it and after looking on a pc support website i got rid of it by manuelly deleteing the contents of the uploads file and then useing 'panda software activescan'. I suggest all limewire users check their monitor window for the uploads folder to make sure they are not infected too. |
Ive just re installed limewire and the uploads folder returned but it is now empty and ive removed it from shared directorys.i now cant detect any virus on my system so i think its ok now and im defineately no longer unintentionally sharing spam but i will keep a close eye on it. Ive only got a limited pc knowledge so if anyone has got any more info about this it would be greatly appreciated. |

thanks i found the folder and deltted the file |
were is the execute command thing? |
click on the start menu then click on run then type in the folder name OR u go in your start go under all programs then go under accessories then go to command prompt |
can someone type in full instructions on how to delete everything attached to this "uploads" thing? |
it wont go away give me ful insructions:confused: |
someone help!!!!!!!!!!!111 please its annoying it keeps coming bqack:( |
Click on start menu then select run. Type in C:\uploads. Select all the files in the folder then delete them all(ctrl a,delete). The virus will still be on your system so you need to get rid of it,i tryed spybot search and destroy, norton,ad adware but they didnt work so someone recomended this(just the free one) http://www.pandasoftware.com/product..._principal.htm and it removed the virus i think it was a w32 spyworm. There may be better programmes to remove it but thats just the one i used. Now when you start limewire again the folder 'uploads'will appear in the libary window again but it should be empty. Right click on it and select 'stop shareing'and it will disappear. And that should be it,i no longer have any problems with it but bear in mind before i found out how to remove it i uninstalled limewire and removed every trace of it of my computer and as i knew what the virus was bundeled with i did the same to that as well(it was a gif animation programme). So if you have no luck then you may need to do this too. Good luck:) |
i have this too but the folder's name is complete and the files are like almost 1mb and i hate it |
complete? o.O;; thats crazy.. I donno what it is, but try using Panda and scan for viruses |
i got the "completed" folder thingy too. it gets annoying to delete the darn thing over and over again. mcafee didn't find anything. limewire makes itself startup on windows boot eventhough i've turned off that feature. and when i close it, it just starts again. everything i do seems to be futile. what the HECK is this? |
|
uploads file funny you should say this, cos i have the very same prob. I get around 5000 items, all the same size (765kb) It's getting a bit worrying now. If you hear of a solution, please let me know. Thanx:confused: |
you should get Avast and run it, also try going into safe mode(F8) and running scan that way and manuelyy removing it in safe mode. that may be the only way, Just in case you don't know how, Reboot your comp. and start pressing F8 as soon as it turns back on that will put you in safe mode and you can safely delete stuff from there. |
C:\Upload (The W32 spyworm) Dear Guys (Those that caught this W32 spyworm) How did you get this worm, e.g. were you running a virus scanner at the time (Y or N), did you deliberately download and run an *.exe file without scanning it first, did you download a *.zip file and autorun it, etc. It is well known (by almost everybody) that surfing the web or using the P2P network without having an up to date virus scanner running is asking for trouble. It is also well known that you can't trust exe and zip files downloaded off P2P. So, I am trying to understand how so many people caught this worm when a few simple precautions, such as setting your LW filter to exclude exe and zip files and running a virus scanner, could have saved so much hassle. Also, though there are no size filters in LW yet, not downloading files under 1 or 2mb is a very sensible policy to adopt. Therefore, unless someone can say something different, it really look like those that caught this worm were either reckless, careless or both. UK Bob |
uploads file Hi all, managed to fix this "uploads" virus. Downloaded free trial of Panda titanium anti virus, which found it and killed it, but you also need to click "Run" c:\uploads- select all- then delete. this definitely will get rid of it. Good luck |
my task manager wont open using control+alt+ delete either.... my lime wire will run for 10-15 minutes and then close and reboot... i also have the hidden folder "complete" under documents and settings.... yesterday there were 7,000 zip files relating to porn, etc ...alsoo... my panda software notified me of "winupdate" trying to connect... and i thought it was part of windows are we in the same boat? i thought it was just my computer lol |
I strongly suggest you guys scan your system with an Anti Virus clearner right away. You cant get rid of viruses by deleting it. Viruses/trojans/worms will keep filling your hard drive until you clean it, that is why Limewire is doing that to because its corrupt and infested. |
thanks Sphinx, im running the panda antivirus software now it found a few infected files also, it seems that the files "msmovies" and "winlogi.exe" are bad my tast manager was not opening upon pressing control alt delete... so i manually opened the tast manager... and i ended both of those processes.. and now my task manager opens do you know if "pavfires.exe" is a normal process? it is taking up too much cpu... |
You're not alone I had around 300-400 files off of lime wire and when it boots up i find 2,375???? i looked in the folder and fould thet the other 1700 files were all porno movie programs. I kept deleting hundred of thousands of these nasty disgusting things and find now that even after completely wipeing my harddrive free of lime wire material, I'M STILL GETTING THESE FILES!!!!! im runnnin panda anti virus rigth now an am just really really mad that those jerks who programed it didnt fix lime wire to use the fire wall i paid like $40 for!!!     |
Always trust your Anti Virus Cleaner, let it do its job. I run mine every night and every time I log off Limewire. Just to set the record straight, Limewire is not the one giving you a virus, a fellow user did. We only use Limewire as an app that connects you to the open Gnutella network and because it is open, users will stick any file in there as a virus/worm/trojan/spam just so you can download, why, I dont know. Good luck, and run your scans as often as you can. ;) |
ahhh thats good to know im not the only one who had a virus like that... i too had limewire uninstalled and i had like 3000 porn files...... after deleting an original 7000 i came across before i uninstalled limewire has anyone hear of "pavfires.exe" ? it uses up alot of cpu until you close limewire... so im sure they are connected... but i dont know if thats a virus because i dont recognize it... |
well i hope i find out why i keep getting that folder called "complete" and i have limewire unistalled right now and theyre still comeing through. i ran adaware and i found somethin called win32.alcan.p2pworm or smothing like that. I really hate these files and they slow down my online games such as RuneScape. |
there was a worm listed on the internet/ on my computer too... panda neutralized it a few times... it was called W32 i think.. thats probably it everything seems to be working fine here... thats probably your problem that and/or msmovies... as soon as i ended ms movies.. my task manager worked again :-/ hopefully some of thins applies to you |
If you stick to MP3 files, you wont get a virus. If you attempt to download pirated software & games, you will most likely pick up a virus. |
If you guys cant stop it, just go to Safe Mode, it will put all file at halt and left unprotected which you can strike while the iron is hot (meaning......DELETE THE UPLOAD FOLDER!!) and run the anti virus in safe mode too. and try to uninstall LimeWire and get LimeWire from Limewire.com |
im searchin my comp for "ms movies" and i was wonderin. what the hell is that "oo" program that i find in my C:\ drive? i was runing that panda scan thing but i was taking for ever and i had to leave so i stopped it. I really want this stuff to stop and i just deleted a crapload more of it five minutes ago. |
by the way how do i delte the folder "complete" if i can only find the contents of it whe i type under the windos explorer url "C:\Documents and Settings\(my name here)\Complete"? P.S. My Ad-Aware scan picked up the p2p worm again its called "Win32.P2P-Worm.Alcan.a" Is there some way i can trace worms? |
yeh that was my problem i downloaded a game oops :-[ i never really thought of that... im kinda new to this, my girlfriend told me about it :-[ anyway.... safe mode is a very good idea as you said i did that and the afore mentioned solutions.. and everything is fine now thanks for all the advice |
Yeha guys i found a way to delete the "complete" folder. Type the file's location and then hit the explore tab under one of the icons. then delete it!. i did it this mornin and im porn free!!! |

:yikes: Would this be classed a Worm or a Trojan? In search of other information I happened upon this forum and this thread and had to lend what I knew. Yes, I had it. My version I felt was so below the belt, even for the creeps making a living at this type of code. (Lets face it, they are the same ones that are on LW looking for/perpetuating kiddie porn....and likely kick dogs) Being semi new to LW and very new to the 'winrar' comp. format, the file size cue deceive me totally. By the sounds of it I may have gotten off easier then some here. Likely due to my stubborn curiosity as apposed to actual knowledge. That actually led me to a few other tid bits. **To Note**: Be aware of Actual anti-virus apps. on LW. That's the kicker! and/or Their respective '******s'!!! Hiding in the form of a setup file in anti-virus.zip is one thing but a lot of key genskey gens are right about the size of this virus. Don't wait for your auto protect to catch up and do a specific file scan on everything you get for free. **Also** This virus 'can' give you a false poss. when updating your definitions to your primary and secondary scanner (no joke), so having 3 or 4 'different types geared to slightly different things can pick them out. Even the light ****** freebie can show a differing result, that's the cue. This is strange - for me it was "NERO" that "FOUND" these inevitable files and it wasn't due to it's on board VS. LOL I was simply making a compilation CD and looking to fill some space at the end. As I'm clicking through the file tree I come across this folder that was filled with files that matched perfectly my search/download behavier on LW. There was 'Almost' no reason to question them at all. 585 of them. That # did tweak to me as "NORTON 2007!!!!" (obtained directly through the Norton download site) said that it had dealt with them! |
