Slow Computer problems

I have a very slow computer out of the dark ages! My phone lines are also the pits, this is why I haven't bathered to upgrade the computer.

My computer has a 100Mhz processor with about 40Meg ram. I can get LimeWire to work most of the time but I'm trying to figure out how to optimize it to work with this system with really bad phone lines. I can only connect at 28.8 max.

I've noticed that if I have over three connections and lots of available files I can't find anything when I use the Search function. It seems that when I have maybe two connections and maybe 50Gig with of file I start finding things to down load. Is there a reason for this?

I'm attempting to figure out where things should be set on a slow system so that I can do searches. Downloading is slow but I can do it most of the time. But I'm having a great deal of difficulty doing searches!

Thanks for any ideas you may have!

Mem Turbo II seems to work really well at freeing up much needed RAM. I think it will work on a slower computer. Mabye you could try downloading it from download.com? (aka cnet)

Slow Computer

Actually, I've been using Ram Booster! Its not too bad but sometimes I have to shut it down because it will slow things down some what! This computer of mine is SO old I can't even find memory for it. Any memory I do find is SO expensive it would be cheeper to simply get a new mother board. Never understood why they charge so much for old memory. They just shoot themselves in the foot cause its cheaper to get a new mother board.

Yeah, SIMM RAM (if that's what you're using) is so utterly expensive it's not evern funny. If you look at it from a certain angle, you could say that you're buying an antique. ;-) Maybe that's why it's so expensive. :-)

There are some other programs that will work much faster than LimeWire. (I'm surprised you could even get to work on yours! Many others have not had this success.) Xolox is very fast, and it is very easy to use.
