is lw legal or not

2 ppl have told me 2 different things, one says that lw is legal and the other says 2 save up for the 300,000 $ fine, is it or not!?

Running LimeWire on your computer is also completely legal.
Downloading copyrighted music with LimeWire is not legal.
Downloading other music that has been released under creative commons license or for example music you can find at sites like http://www.magnetmix.com or the latest linux isos is legal.
