Legal prosecution for image downloads and Lime Wire Existence

folks, just a couple of questions, on two subjects:

1. I found the Image search to be a useful tool to quickly get a match on nearly any title I input. But, I found that some rather innocuous searches turn up images that are pornographic and may not be legal to download. My concern is having law enforcement knock on my door a day later because of using your image search. Perhaps this tool is a good way to get arrested and better not to be used? Not all images are titled accurately so I dont know what will turn up until I preview it while downloading it. Does this site regulate such images or are we on our own?

2. The other day, a legal ruling in the US courts stated that Music companies have a right to sue a company that allows the public to share music, such as LimeWire. Does this mean my lifetime membership with LimeWire is due to expire when you guys get sued and lose? Sorry for being cynical but it seems this is inevitable.

by the way, I enjoy your service a lot and used to have to go out and purchase a CD weekly for $18 to get my music. Now, I can simply download a song I like, burn it on my computer, and it feels good to screew over the music companies since they been doing it to the public for so long.

1. As for what you downld or find in your searches, here's some things to keep in mind: autogenerated spam results & be wary of long names for files. With some experience you'll know what I mean. Quality of Content on the Network

2. There is no lifetime membership for LW! See this http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1

* The Gnutella Network does not use a central server like Napster & some others did/do!!! The only files are from users sharing just like yourself. So a file you downld might be from a person across the other side of the planet or it could be your next door neighbour.

Unlike those companies that were involved in that court case, LW does not advertise or condone in any way the illegal downlding of copyright files in any way. Just go to their downld page to see for yourself. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml & also the pro downld page http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...stionpro.shtml

oh well

thanks for the help, but it is unclear to me what my $35 actually got me in terms of duration? I signed up last year and dont recall what it was back then. I was under the impression that it was a lifetime membership at the time I joined, maybe you guys changed the policy since then. I went to the thread you suggested and got more confused as the posts talked about some scam and not addressing my question.

about this copyright crap, fortunately I came across only one song that had been copyrighted (Teri DeSario "aint nothing going to..") while everything else apparently is not and ive downloaded lots. that copyrighted song i was able to get after paying a small fee.

lastly, about the image downloading and the risk of being arrested for downloading an illegal pic, it seems we are on our own. ill pass on using the image search and advise others to use caution cause many stings have been going on in new york for illegal downloads and literally hundreds busted by the police. Big brother is out of control.

thanks again for your help

What I was saying is that you were scammed because you got your LW from a scam site! Not from the official LW site. LW Pro only costs $18.88 & what's more, there's a free version. So I think you'll find you paid $35 for the free version & not for LW Pro.

pisses me off

now i see what your saying

unbelievable, all this law enforcement in the land of milk and honey and they cant police those scam sites on the web and permit them to operate freely. I wondered why the site I signed up for this service suddenly changed its name to LimeWire and now i see what those baastards did to me. The name LimeWire did not appear when i joined that pseudo site.

instead of going after those crooks, the police give them a free pass and arrest those who simply download pics, unbelievable.

im surprised they didnt overcharge my credit card from what they advertised

That's right. If it had have happened within the last week or 2 then I would have advised to cancel the transaction thru your bank or credit company. But it's too late now.

With the recent court case, these sites may well find themselves in for trouble because they openly advertise & promote illegal downlding.

Not all music shared is copyright (although most is) & the same goes for other items shared. For example, you can get copyright free material from the magnet site. Here's an example for videos: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml
Also if you use Bitzi Web Lookup ... you can find if a particular file is copyright if it's listed in their database & if the copyright situation is known. Bitzi is also helpful for finding out if a file is healthy or not. But Bitzi is still growing in size & needs as much contributed to it as possible. ;) :)
