Payment for Limewire

Hello,

I paid for Basic Limewire on May 8 for 2 Yrs. ($22.80). I have been having firewall issues and I un-installed it (un-intentionally deleted it too).
Please let me know what you can do for me because I thought I could just re-nstall it again. I tried to log in as a member but could not. (I never received an email after purchase). Naturally I don't want to have to pay again. Please help asap.

Thanks.

Fred Muchunu.

You've been scammed. LimeWire PRO costs $18.88...

Please read...

...especially ukbobboy01's posts on page 8 are IMO informative.

Payment for Limewire

Thanks a ot for your responses. I'll be disputing the charge with my card company. The site I went to is:

http://www.download-it-free.com/limewire/

and I have no way of contacting them! Beware!

Once again, Thanks.

Wild Peach July 24th, 2005 08:11 PM

It just boggles the mind how many sites are out there biting the beat of this site...sorry you got burned, but if it's any consolation, you're not the first. I tell everyone I refer to make sure they come to the official url, if anything other than that pops up, don't f*ck with it. Good luck fighting with your cc company...

Powerstufff July 25th, 2005 04:50 AM

I think I've been burned too

The long version
Here in Australia I thought I'd paid for a basic Limewire 4.8.1 download at about $28. After going throught the payment process I saw I was debited about $54. The extra was for some unwanted DVD download facility and an unwanted spyware detector. I received a receipt email from an MP3 download site whose details I unfortunately don't have with me (I'm at work). They are uncontactable, no email address and a US phone no. that is only supposedly active at times that are useless to me in Australia. I did get the basic Limewire 4.8.1 program but that's hardly difficult.
The short version
I reckon I've been scammed. And I didn't realise till I saw some of the comments in this forum. I wonder if I can halt/reverse the payment? Will find out tomorrow morning.
What I'd really like
a. To find out if this uncontactable MP3 company is a geniune portal for Limewire
b. To find some way of contacting the Limewire accounts people in case this was a genuine transaction, and get it amended.

ultracross July 25th, 2005 06:09 AM

the only true/genuine place to get limewire is from http://www.LimeWire.com/

there is NO other official place to download binary copies of limewire.

The source code for LimeWire is also freely available at http://www.LimeWire.org/ limewire also owns this site and is the only official place to recieve the source code.

LimeWire basic is FREE.
LimeWire PRO costs $18.88 and gives you 6 months of updates. along with genuine PRO technical support via email.

LimeWire basic and pro version are completely free of adware/spyware/malware/crapware etc... you only get the limewire program. best thing is that basic doesnt even have ads. (but it does have a pro ad to remind you that you should go pro.)

there is no other official sites or portals for LimeWire. LimeWire.com is the only true place to download it.

Powerstufff July 25th, 2005 11:15 PM

I've finally been able to contact the business that sold me Limewire.
As someone from a country whose timezones are opposite the US it was a frustrating process and I eventually found them open at 3am my time. There is no email contact, only phone contact.
They are at http://www.musicmembersarea.com/index.asp
They have promised to refund the unordered components which brings the price down to about US$23 for "....the full licensed version of the program with absolutely no downloading limits, no limits to search results, no file size limits!....". However it is not Limewire Pro.
So it seems I'm not as burned/scammed as I feared, but just a very bad researcher of deals.

ukbobboy01 July 26th, 2005 01:33 AM

Powerstufff

I hope you are right about not being scammed but seriously, as scammers are notorious liars, I doubt it.

And also:

What is this wonderful piece of mysterious software that has no conceivable limits and no name? How could anything so great remain in obscurity? Where’s the beef?

All this, Mr Powerstufff, sound far too good to be true, in fact it sounds like another "scammers" line.

I guess that at 3am you must have been very tired and all this smooth scammers’ line must have sounded very comforting. I think that all you will really get, if anything, is another link to another "free" P2P software, e.g. Bearshare Lite or something similar.

I am a self confessed cynic but I hope your negotiations work out for you.

Hmm, and you believe Google? In case you didn't noticed it, the search results are so called sponsored links (advertisement) masked as search results. Google's advertisement system is known to be a bit shady...

I couldn't even find an email address. They advertise a phone no. but it's only available in US office hours, or thereabouts. Here in Australia I work shift work so waited till 3 a.m. our time and got through quite quickly. I didn't ask for the full amount to be refunded, only that part for extra bundled software I clearly hadn't ordered. On that basis they seemed willing to return part of my money. I'm willing to accept that and write off the balance as a learning cost.
I'll let you know if that partial refund comes through.

fmuchunu July 30th, 2005 07:53 AM

Hey guys,

Thanks for all your advice and pointers. I realize I was fooled by the "sponsored links". I got my money back from my credit card company (Once you explain your situation, most cc companys will refund disputed charges up to 90-days after they occur).

So let me ask this one thing...The PRO version at limewire.com: Does it work just fine without slowing down one's computer or stuff like that (spyware, etc)? I had so many issues when I downloaded the crap from that bogus site.

Thanks!

Grandpa July 30th, 2005 08:36 AM

Both Versions of LimeWire are spyware free some people do have problems with LW slowing down there computer both versions. The staff at LimeWire is currently working on a new version which is a little less memory intinsive. I have found with Pro I get a little better search results than I do with basic in (leaf mode), in ultrapper they both seem to be the same. If I were you I would try the new basic 4.9.11 and see how it preformes for you. If you have any problems with it you can try some of the fixes in this forum. I have found A properley configured LimeWire is the best P2P software avaliable and I use them all. There are others who will disagree with me thoug, but it has been the best for me. If you like the basic then I would buy PRO but remember 4.9.11 is a beta and may have some problems I am currently running it no mager isues so far but a coupple of minor ones though but it preformes great. 5.0 should be comming out soon whitch will be a regular release with most of the bugs worked out. Make sure whatever you do you get from the official site. And make sure you have gotten rid of all the spyware from your previous copy. After you uninstall the previous copy you should deleat the LW folder on your hard drive before reinstalling. Hope this helps. Sorry for the rambling probbaly more Info than you were asking for.

I'm pleased to say I received a full refund from MP3DOWNLOADING.CO at http://www.musicmembersarea.com/index.asp. Better (obviously) than the partial refund I'd thought I was getting. Woo hoo. Thanks for the advice etc everyone.

Glad you got the full refund rather than that promised (fictitious) software (with no limits).

I phoned the number, albeit with difficulty as I pointed out. US office hours are night-time here in Oz. There was no email contact offered. I didn't require my credit card supplier's help but was prepared to use them if neccessary.
I'm unsure if the no. was free, but calling overseas is sure to cost me anyway.

Google is a business and is in business to make money, scam sites are lucrative businesses and can afford to pay Google for advertising, i.e. coming at the top of any P2P search.

Gullible people are just the "suckers" that can be easily parted from their money.
