Limewire hogs the bandwidth

My son is running Limewire on a Mac OS 10.2.x. When Limewire is open, access to the internet on other computers crawls to a near stop.

If I exit Limewire on his computer access speed picks back up immediately to where it should be on broadband cable modem.

Short of limiting Limewire to after I go to bed is there anything we can do to share the bandwidth more equitably?

[Limewiring]

In Limewire go to the options menu then to transfers/downloads. On the bottom, correct that equalizer (as I call it) and set it to a lower point to share the memory with your computer. This usually works for me.
