Technical Query Please forgive me...this is my first post and I really need help. Last night I accidentally clicked on stop sharing and have spent all day today looking for the "enable sharing" option to re-instate the share option. I have manage to add my windows media skins folder to the directory but have since encountered an enourmous decrease in my download speed. I have a 2.3 mb p/s connection that used to offer over 100kbps download speed. It is now 4 kbps or less. There's no point whatsoever in downloading a film when it takes 4 days to do it. Can someone tell me.....in PLAIN ENGLISH please.....e.g click on this, then click on that......I am not technically minded at allwhat can I do to increase my download spped back to what it was yesterday. I have a feeling that I may have something to do with the fact that I clicked on "stop sharing". Things just haven't been the same since I did this. Yours Desperate of Callington |
Where you clicked stop sharing click add file to share you will be shown a browse window and hopefuly you will be able to find what you were sharing... This assuming you were in the library window. I hope that this helps. It is possible that if you are sharing no files you will experience a falling of speed in a large download, an a number of hosts helping with the upload will be likely to stop you downloading from them. Then again you could just be having a bad day! let us know if this helps or you need any more information |

Sir, Many, many thanks for your help on this. I have been able to go back and enable the share option. As you suggested, I went into the library and right clicked on the skins tab. This gave me two options a) Stop Sharing b) To play list Selecting the "to play list" option has emboldened the stop sharing option again and it would seem that I am no longer "blocking" uploads. I do however, still have the problem that my download speed is still resting at about 4 kbps. I have no idea what to do about it, other than to uninstall. I have already tried this twice with no benefit. I am genuinely starting to despair. I just managed to complete one mp3 file and it took two hours!!!!! Therefore, I suppose I am still in the "need more information" bracket. Can you suggest anything? Many many thanks John Bygrave |
Thanks Lord of the Rings, I have added my hard drive windows media player skins folder down as the folder. This should, I hope, enable access and contribute to an increase in my download speed. Fingers crossed but I probably still need more advice and support. John Bygrave |
