burn to dvd

Hi guys,

Im new to using limewire, and still cant get my head around the concept of mpg, and avi files. What is the best file to download from lime wire?

I have been dowloading Mpg files, but having trouble watching them. I can only watch small files, but having trouble watching full length movies. I have been only able to watch one full length movie 'monster in law' and that is through VLC. Through winamp it only shows as being 49 min instead of 1:35:00. All i basically want to do is be able to download movies from limewire (and of course share them all with you guys) and burn them to dvd for my private collection. But after days and days of research, i still dont understand a simple way to do this. I am hoping that someone can explain a straight forward way to do this.
Do th movies need to be encoded first? Do the files need to be converted to a different format before i burn to dvd? And is there a program that can encode, convert and burn?
Is Avi better than mpg? cos i downloaded an Avi movie and am able to play it without a problem through VLC, although its in two parts. At the moment as i speak, i am trying to join the files through 'Advance X Video Converter' and then i am going to try and burn it to dvd through DVDSANTA. Is that a wise idea, or ive got it all wrong? :) I would appreciate it if someone could give me a simple solution in plain english so i can start saving them all to dvd's... Thanks heeps in advance :)
