Question

What version antivirus? I'm using 2004, and it peacably coexists with Limewire (only appearing if it's catching a critter).
This isn't something like personal firewall? I have McAfee, and it warns about the increased possiblity of downloading a nasty. However, it does it much less dramatically

Default Nortons Antivirus

I think you may be using Norton AV 2005, which is the same as I use.

There are two things I would suggest you do:

1) Update and then run a full anti-virus scan, this will catch and delete anything (virus, Trojan, worm) that has sneaked onto your PC.

2) If you do not have a firewall then get Norton Personal Firewall 2005, not the easiest of firewalls but it will integrate seamlessly with your anti-virus software and give that extra protection all broadband users should have.

Although not a full suggestion, you should also get PeerGuardian 2 (free) which blocks various computer companies (domestic and foreign), local authorities, etc., on the IP level from sneaking into your PC via port 6346.

I think you have missed an essential point I was making in my first post, although it's my fault for not putting enough emphasis on it:

I now believe your NAV2005 is reacting to those "computer companies" trying to sneak into your PC while you are using LW. I strongly suggest that you get PeerGuardian 2, which should stop the annoying Nortons pop-ups and sneak attacks on your PC.

NAV 2005 has a feature called Threat detection what is happening is what ukbobboy01 is saying NAV is detecting that you are being probed you should take his advice.

Does anyone know where I can download a good and free firewall software?

I have microsoft's firewall, but I can imagine that it isn't good.
