Red face Getting Fake Mp3s

HI Guys Just want to tell you that people are working on guarding against fake mp3s, Just found a website offers a shield for the kazaa programs ie kazaa, Kazaa lite and the others of that nature but their now working on making it for all the better P2P programs, they said this would be in version 2, but the version that's out will scan your collection and find the fakes anyway, but It won't scan the files comming down, which is what it does with the kazaa clients and It works, tried it on kazaa and it did find them as they were being downloaded

It also found fakes in my music collection which has now been deleted after checking them

The website is www.mp3shield.com

Ps Have now put it for upload
search for
Mp3Shield (See Forums).exe

Red face

thanx...

Most of them are corrupted files... duplicating themselfs in playlist (with new names such as "visit mysite.com") and even trying to open some links sometimes...

Satisfied???

Hi Dagam3

their definition of fake is a couple of seconds of song and blank space or screatching noises, which is a Fake file but I agree It is a more advanced Mp3 file (Not 1 I would want) but everybody to their own I Guess

These fakes I see out there, evidenced if you search for "Kate Bush Aerial", are very likely propogated on purpose by commercial companies. I presume music labels hire third-parties to do this.

There used to be the MP3 fakes that had maybe 10second of real music, then annoyingly loud static. Some now are silence, and a majority of them seem to fail connection.

It's pretty easy to spot them, and often times you must be diligent in looking for "real" files that are often with a differently formatted title, bitrate, etc.

I recently saw a /24 that seemed suspiciously active in this, which I traced to a commercial ISP. They had several ports listening (evidenced by a simple scan of their hosts). Very likely as per above.

The IP pools that have these fakes are diversified. There are some t3's but a lot of other dsl/cable. Some of them maybe innocent victims of fakes, others very likely not.

Comments, suggestions welcomed.
