downloading videos

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to Limewire and downloading in general so apologies for my ignorance, but could anybody tell me whether there is a chance of me downloading anything nasty eg. spyware, adware etc. when downloading a video?

Also, am I right in thinking that you can't download anything nasty from mp3s? and can only download viruses with programs?

Sorry if this a stupid question, I'm new to all this! :)

HEY _ryan_132_4 there are a few rulles

1. Look at the size. If you wanna a movie don't d/l files under 650MB.

2. if you see 10 files (or more) with the same size, don't d/l them either...

3.You always can have a preview of your video before waiting 1 day to complete the d/l... So if is not what you want cancel the d/l and search more...

Addition:
And dont step over Lord Of The Rings advices !!!

the 650mb part is sketchy.. thats if its a full XviD/DivX movie, full SVCD/VCD movie, or DVD.

i've seen one CD of a VCD go as low as 450mb-500mb.

i wouldn't download some movie like what ever movie.mpg -- i'd find a movie called like Deuce.Bigalow.European.Jiggalo.TS.VCD-ANON.tar

its scene released. i won't explain scene to everyone, but if it's seperated by dots and ends with a - with a group name. its likely a more authentic file.

you cant get viruses from a ligit MP3 file but you can from software and any exe file or even zips/rars. Movie files are very large to download always check the file extensions and the size before you click on it and if it doesnt look right to you then avoid it.

and what about the quality...?

Now let's see the lenght of the movie... If it's more than 2 hours my personal advice is to go on the "2CD's" movies (about 1.4GB)... if you really wanna enjoy watching the movie...
There can be good movies over 2 hours on one cd too. But... don't push it !!! Your luck as a beginer (_ryan_132_4) is resuming on staying clean... :) in this wild world of viruses...

VCDS are okay until the SVCD comes out, or a dvd screener (if it doesn't have a counter on it, random messages about call this 800 number, or a property of xxx films watermarked in the background) finally trickles out ;)
