I Just Deleted heaps of songs, need help!! I went into library and dumbly deleted a certain amount of songs like 200?.....can i get these back? They didnt go to recycle bin...help please. |
HiHello No, you can't get them back - If you had deleted them from windows explorer they would have gone into your recycle bin but you deleted them from the library in LW and so they are gone forever. Sorry but a bitter lesson learned. UK Bob |

HiHello You naughty person:confused:, you did not say you had WinXP (I should have guessed:(), system restore may work. You just have to tell XP to go back to presaved point. I have looked at "System Restore" but fortunately never had to use it. Anyway, here's the URL to Microsoft's instruction on how to use this facility. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...emrestore.mspx Good Luck. UK Bob |
Ukbob, haha sorry, just fiddling around with it now, my copmuter seems like it has no restore dates though:( |
Here read this thread: lost my files I rcovered almost 40 GB with that program, after a bad configurated FORMAT disk...(I lost the MBR (master boot record))... I lost almost the entire disk. But that program helped me to recoever it back 100% and I'll never ever forget this !!!!!!!!!! (It took me about 6 hours to complete the recovering process...) But don't forget: the bigger was the activity (of writing data) on the drive that contained the files, the less will be the chaces for you to recover your files. So if the files were on C:\ then your chances are decresing... by every minute that windows is running. Also there is no hope for you if you defragmented that drive since the lost of the files... The 100% chance for you to recover the files is by Shuting Down (even by cutting the power of...(recomanded if the files were on C:\)) the comp. right after you lost your files. After that boot from other Hard Disk (or other Drive (if you have 2 OS's onto your comp)) !!! (with your "old" hard disk connected inside the comp.) and recover the files to the new hard disk (or to a nonimplicated drive) or to a third hard disk. This is 100% Succes |

System Recovery Feature HiHello When and if you get your files back, it may be a good idea to switch the System Recovery facility in WinXP on. I know this is "shutting the gate after the horse has bolted" but you never know when going back to a "restore point" will come in handy. UK Bob |

There are always chances for you to recover at least one file... but who knows... You can find this only by givening a try (and there are some more info's I posted again...) |
Ah Dagam3, How do i work this program for getting back deleted files, what do i go to first? Edit: got about 34 songs back, anything else i can do? |
System Recovery HiHello Here's the official version from MS: Quote:
It is a very useful facility and, in all honesty, should always be on. UK Bob |
There is at least 1 year since I last run the program... I really don't remember much... But I think that the program should have some help files... Glad to read that you recovered some of your files. |
Uk Bob Thanks for the info, will put it on shortly, i want to try this WinXP recorvery thing but my computer looks like it has no dates to recover. |
ukbobboy011. I never used System Restore (and don't recomand to others to do so) and always I'm keep on disableing it but it keeps on enableing it's self all the time... right know I looked and it is enable again    ... 2. I don't think that System Restore will ever work for me... 'cause "System Restore does not restore user data or documents" (and mp3's are cosiderated user data or documents...) than I don't need it... I think it only restores system & windows files... 3. I never used it so I don't know to much about the recovers it is doing... but I'll better install windows every day than run a JUNKY windows restored by System Restore... |

I'm using some R-linux program now....it comes up with this warning: NEVER TRY TO SAVE RECOVERED FILES/FOLDERS ONTHE SAME LOGICAL DISK WHERE THEY RESIDE!!! Or you may obtain unpredictable results and lose all yourdata. any idea what that means? |
Note: My windows install it takes about 15min. with all the programs already instaled on it... 'cose I made some real backups of the programs and files that I know they are important... Who knows exactlly what System Restore is backup-ing... and some times the "_Restore" folder gets to bigger (On my comp it once was almos 1GB... What the....???... and I was wondering why my comp. is so slow... 'cose the System Restore was working verry hard...  ) And I'm not using any king of program (guru programs that backup you disk, files and so on......) |

Lol i dont get it... So are you saying with these programs once you've recovered the files you cant save them back onto your C:\ drive? |
Save them on other drive (ie D:\, E:\ ...) or at least in other folder... On other fizical location onto your disk... for the moment and after that you can put them where you want. |
Thanks for your help. |
WinXP Recovery Dagam3 I can understand your reluctance to use System Restore but I believe it is one of Windows best facilities and can get you out of a bind. For example, from time to time I try out new utilities that I think will be of use to me, such as a PDF to Word converter or new faxing software. Now if one of those new apps mess up on installation it could mean that I have to do a complete reinstallation or, with System Restore, just go back to a point before the installation. I do know that not all Windows facilities work the way they should but when they do they save a lot of hassle. I will agree on one thing though, there are certainly no substitutes for regular backups. UK Bob |
