Hi superniceguy

You must have a fast connection

You must have the ports open (ie open them yourself in your firewall program)

You Must Have A Lot Of Files To Transfer

I Would Say About Over 1,000

Do Not keep connecting and disconnecting

More often than not I find myself an ultrapeer ... Gnutella decides not you. I have had a couple of problems recently with many peers attempting to connect in vain and my connection dropping of to almost zero, and I have dissabled ultrapeer capabilities in preferences/options temporarily. I think it is of benefit to the network rather than you to be an ultrapeer, although the title is rather cool, but as long the network needs you as an Ultrapeer it will use you. I think if there were no ultrapeers the network would not obe able to opperate. I may have this entirely wrong and if I have, please someone correct me:)

PS I've just reinstated ultrapeer cpabilities and all is running sweetly

Ultrapeer

Superniceguy

I have found that when using LWPro 4.9.28 with a TurboCharged Internet connection, mine runs at 2.2Mps, LW automatically switched me from "Leaf" to "Ultrapeer", with no intervention from me.

So, to be an "Ultrapeer" you have to have broadband.

67kbps = 67 KiloBitswhich converted to kiloBYTES (/8) =8KBps

So looks like your bandwidth is being maxed. All is good.

btw, you can be an Ultrapeer if you are sharing zero files. In fact, if your files are in high demand, you help the network more by being an uploader, and since being an ultrapeer uses up about the equivalent of one upload slot (8-15 KB/s), LimeWire may automatically switch you to leaf mode under those conditions.

Don't worry however: leafs get just as good (sometimes even better) searching and downloading than Ultrapeers.

superniceguy September 5th, 2005 01:41 PM

ok i know that being an ultrapeer isnt going to help me much or at all. i just like helping this out i think of my self that way. if nobody helped...nothing would happen. so your all saying i cant make my self be a ultrapeer unless i have fast conetion like 2-3mbs or something

so i im right the best thing for me is just let ppl upload from me and not try to be an ultrapeer

and if you didnt read my first post i have 96k modem not broadban im going to get broadban after i get a job becuase my parents will not pay for anything other than dail up and im 14 so... i realy pay for my self im real trying to get a better car first

superniceguy September 5th, 2005 01:44 PM

o and sorry that was a typo i downloaded something at 65KB not Kb and im on 56k modem

rkapsi September 5th, 2005 02:34 PM

You mean certainly 6.5KB/s and I'd like to point out that 56k Modem connections are asymmetric like ADSL.

http://www.umanitoba.ca/acn/remote/faq/speed56.html

... your 6.5KB/s downstream is too slow to be an Ultrapeer and the upstream is even slower. Thus, Modem users can never become Ultrapeers.

superniceguy September 5th, 2005 05:57 PM

im sorry if i confused you but the download was 65KBps not 6.5KBps it must of confused you and it is confusing me how i downloaded that fast and if i remeber right it was like around a 200MB file(it was a movie)and i finshed it quickly it didnt just say that i was going that fast i was realy going that fast

Sgt September 5th, 2005 07:37 PM

Hi superniceguy

If you downloaded at that speed you are not on a 56k Modem
you must have a ADSL or an ISDN connection.

One other thing I have been connected every time as an Utltrapeer because I'm not on a 56k modem which It's Download speed If your lucky is 4.8 KB/s

Sgt im not trying to prove your worng or something im just woundering why it did that and i do have dail up i know i dont have DSL/Cable if i did i would all ways have the fast DLs i get them about ever other mount other than that it 5-6KBps and about once a week i got 10-12KBps

so dont get me wrong im not trying ot prove you worng im just telling you what is happening and if i might add the file i DLed was a movie (mpg) and it didnt work and i know that i can use them because i have mpg muisc vids

Sgt September 5th, 2005 08:28 PM

Hi superniceguy

If you get the speeds you're saying and you don't have ADSL then you must have an ISDN connection which is Dialup, also ADSL is Dialup as well because it uses the same phoneline, as your phone, but the signal is split, so you could use the phone and your internet connection at the same time.

Sgt

superniceguy September 6th, 2005 05:27 PM

well i cant use my phone and my internet at the same time and i have netzero (not 3G) so im not realy sure if its ADSL or what ever that other thing was but i know that i cant use both phone and internet at the same time and im not sure what ADSL is

Sgt September 7th, 2005 08:18 AM

Hi superniceguy

I Have just Checked what you are getting offered from netzero

http://www.netzero.net/

Web at dial-up speeds of up to 56 Kbps

You are on a 56k Modem, but you are Reading it wrong it's saying 56Kbps per second Not 56KB/s to get your true download speed you have to divide it by 8 then take around 5-10% of of that which would give you a speed of 6.3KB/s - 6.5KB/s download speed, in the Uk it's even more than that, we were lucky to Get 4.8Kb/s a lot of people I know were only getting 4.2KB/s

With thousands of access numbers nationwide, NetZero makes it easy for you to get and stay online, with fewer busy signals and disconnects. NetZero allows you to access the Web at dial-up speeds of up to 56 Kbps-the fastest dial-up connection available! Additionally, most of our numbers support the V.90 standard. To check what access numbers are available in your area

a question

hi all i am confused coz i also have a 56 kb/s connection speed and the download speed is always 7 or 6 but its always 7 . i am wondering why is it called 56 kb/s and the download speed is just 7 or 6 and isnt like 50 ? and i live in lebanon and here we do not have a connection speed more than the wireless and it costs 70 $ in month just to get this 56 kb/s speed. so i am lucky in this middle east world. i cant wait to grow up and travel to a real civilization.

stief September 8th, 2005 10:24 AM

a byte (B) is 8 bits (b).

So 7 KB (kiloBYTES) is 56 kb (kiloBITS), since 7*8=56.

Confusing, eh? ;)

Anyways, your modem connection is really good. Usually a person rarely gets their theoretical maximum, because of line conditions, and many other factors. Your modem connections are really good if you usually get the full 7KB.

mohannad_7 September 8th, 2005 10:41 AM

sorry

i said that it is always 7 . but is is always 5.6 and like that and if i am having two downloads adding their speed doesnt equal 7 but 5 or even 4

mohannad_7 September 8th, 2005 10:45 AM

hi all

hi all of you readers don't you think that a guy having a 56 Kb/s connection speed for 70 $ /month suks . i mean whan kind of idiot will accept that.

Only A Hobo September 8th, 2005 11:12 AM

good grief. Is that a typo! Is US$70.00 per month the going rate for low quality internet connection in Lebanon? OUCH!

mohannad_7 September 8th, 2005 11:18 AM

tell me

pleaes tell me what do you mean about what you said just now ?

Only A Hobo September 8th, 2005 12:14 PM

Mohannad ... when you said:
"hi all of you readers don't you think that a guy having a 56 Kb/s connection speed for 70 $ /month suks . i mean whan kind of idiot will accept that."

my reply was , to put it another way saying "That is a lot of money, I sympathise!

I should not use some words when talking to a non English speaker, but your English seemed so good that I assumed, the way the British tend to, that you could understand anything in English:). Sorry about that!

typo is a term we seem to have taken from the USA .. it means typing error. Ouch is what we say when we hurt ourselves, and Good Grief, is one of the politer expressions which express surprise or astonishment.

I hope this makes it clear, and sorry to have confused you!

mohannad_7 September 8th, 2005 12:32 PM

sorry

hello Only A Hobo i do know a lot of english. so don't worry but the thing that i don't get is the shortcuts of words that you use. and i even got arabic letters on my keyboard that i never use and if i used them i have to search for every letter. and lastly i want to tell you that i never knew anyone like you in such a good manners can you please send me a message of your e-mail so i can chat with you ?

Only A Hobo September 8th, 2005 01:27 PM

Mohannad .. I'd love to hear from you. The easiest way is to click pm(personal message) below and send a private message. You can set yours to send you e-mail notification when I or anyone else sends a pm to you. This way e-mails don't get mixed up with spam and get deleted by the spam filters!

I was on here for a few weeks before I discovered PMs existed!

not all .mpg files use the same codecs. Have you tried installing different ones? Look Here for a few codecs (or search google yourself and find some of the many codecs available).
