LimeWire pro linking to bitzi spyware

I just paid for Limewire pro from http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml

my PC has never had a virus,Trojan or running spyware in over 2 years
but within a week of getting LMpro i have had a Trojan try to run
and spyware running on my PC

LM gives you a option to "Look up a file using Bitzi"
on the site that LM sends you to
there is a tool called Bitzi for making your own sigs for your files
it's bc-setup-0.6.0 and is a install file

After installing the Bitzi, i restated and norton popped up and stopped Trojan.Dropper from running
the trojan file was iun6002.exe

I then did a full scan with ad-aware se and it found spyware (scumware) called Ezula on my PC
using ad-aware i found out that it was connected to Bitzi
i removed it and did a full scan, it came up clean
so i uninstalled Bitzi (bc-setup-0.6.0) then did a scan
and it was back!
it seems it reinstalls its self when bitzi is uninstalled
when i completely removed bitzi the PC was clean

Now LMpro wont run, its blank

Why do the makers of Limewire pro link to, and let you install spyware?

Interesting

bitzi lookups are just a way to check out info based on the file "hash" (exact file signature). You can also get the SHA-1 hash by right-clicking a file in LW's library, Advanced->Magnet Link details

I'm on a Mac, so never even tried the bitzi file generator. Still, that's pretty nasty if it installs that junk.

AFAIK, LW and Bitzi have no current business relationship, and the lookup link has been a somewhat useful part of LW for a long time. Really, there's no need to remove the Bitzi Lookup since it sounds like the tool you found was not part of LW, and no one else I know uses it.

As for getting your LW to run again, try deleting LW and starting again with a fresh download.

Your story is very interesting because it shows that on the internet there are very few, if any, safe websites open to the general public.

Also, bear in mind that virus writers are always looking for new ways to infect PCs, so what better way than to plant a virus on a well recommended site.

As unfortunate as your experience is, it has added to the knowledgebase of dangers PC users should look out for.

I reinstalled Limewire pro and it runs OK again :)

I've also noticed that Ad-Aware se updates allot faster
with bitzi Bitcollider Utility and Ezula removed

The thing that gets me is, Bitzi Bitcollider Utility (bc-setup-0.6.0)
is use to make info for things like LW :(

The software i used to remove the adware and trojan...

Ad-Aware se

NIS 2004

TrojanHunter
