i think ive been cheated out of my money
 

so limewire is free right? well i payed for it. I signed up on this site: www.allcoolmusic.com that claimed to have free music downloads. but then i'm directed to a site that wants payment for about 18.00 for a whole year of unlimited downloads. I decide this is not bad, compared to the .99 cent itunes. so i pay, and they direct me to another site www.mymusicnow.com. and they tell me to download limewire. at the time, i never heard of limewire. hence, i thought it was legit. so am i dumb, or what? I would like if someone from LW themselves would tell me if indeed i was cheated. just so that i can know. if not, is limewire really affiliated with any of these other companies?

meanwhile, my darn limewire is having trouble connecting, ( please read my post under the general osx board, if u think u can help me with that. ) if it never gets fixed, i think i'll just have to stick with the .99 cent itunes, and limit the number of songs i download so i dont go broke.

You were cheated by a scam site with no ties to Limewire whatsoever.

Limewire basic is completely free to download and use.

We've got a Mac user being recomended Shareaza and Ares (sorry Arvy ... it was only in small print but he said he was a macuser:))
and now we've got some one suggesting that p2p applications are all rip offs and even some of the record companies reckon uiTunes is a rip off!!!!!!!!
Any way you can all follow the link at the end, which if I'm not mistaken will take you back to all the totally rip off scam sites mentioned in the first post.

Mercifully there is one sane post amongst this lot. Pauelsz recommends Phex and there's nothing wrong with that recomendation:)

thanks for the info guys! i wish i would've joined this forum before deciding to pay those dang thiefs....o well, u live and learn right? anyhow, i took your advice and downloaded phex, but just like my limewire, it cant seem to find a connection. well im thinking of asking my school's computing help desk why my LW or phex isnt working, but before i do, i want to know, are LW and phex legal? my school has a huge copyright infringment policy, which they heavily enforce. i hope someone out there can tell me the truth about the legalities of this....

LimeWire , Flex or any other P2P software is not illegal but what you do with it may be. If you are downloading copyrighted material then in many parts of the world doing so is illegal.
