Upgrade Message when opening program!

Are extremely annoying. Does anyone know how to turn it off?

stief October 10th, 2005 09:45 AM

sounds like a "feature request" to add a "never" button to the Upgrade section of the Options.

troop471 October 11th, 2005 09:34 AM

Sounds like were stuck with it. I just keep hitting later, but it is annoying. Have you tried Bearshare? I have, but every time I install it MS Antispyware Beta and Adaware both find it as melicious spyware.......

limewire October 11th, 2005 01:02 PM

I think the best part is that it does the merry-go-round with the buttons so that if you're not careful, and you're used to always clicking the last one, it'll trick you into clicking the one for upgrade. I'm suprised Micro$oft didn't think of it first. ;) Maybe you'd like to try FrostWire when it comes out, its supposed to be free of nagware.

Bearshare/Limewire

Thanks for the tip. Never heard of nagware, but it sounds perfect. Any feedback on Bearshare from anyone?

Only A Hobo October 13th, 2005 03:41 PM

All the feedback on Bearshare has been pretty much positive, except that it seems very hard to find a copy that is not crammed full of spyware, and development has afaik ceased. ...........(Oh and it won't work on Mac:()

Phex is well worth looking into BTW!

Bearshare/Spyware

Yes, Bearshare is crammed with Spyware, which bothers me alot. MS Anti Spyware Beta always finds spyware from Bearshare that it does not like, but Bearshare claims it is spyware free.

AaronWalkhouse October 18th, 2005 07:12 PM

It is free of spyware, and the one innocent adware
component can be safely deleted without affecting
BearShare.

The M$ antispyware false detection has been in there since
before M$ acquired it from Giant. It was a rogue entry
added by some activist with a personal axe to grind and this
error has never been corrected. Note that you could get it
to falsely label anything as spyware simply by copying it
into BearShare's temp folder.

You can safely set M$-AS to ignore anything associated with BearShare.

Only A Hobo October 19th, 2005 03:30 AM

Aaron, I retract my remark about spyware in Bearshare, it was based on other posts in the forum which have since been corrected.

Is it true that development of Bearshare has ceased, or have I got that wrong as well?

That there is not a Mac version ... I know that is right :(
