unauthorized download

i've been encountering what seems like a problem lately. sometimes in a search (ex. melvins) it will come up in 1st place exactly like i typed it in, but w/ alot of #'s, no bitrate and sometimes spelled w/ underlines (ex. m_e_l_v_i_n_s_). today searching "melvins" it came up as typed w/ 23 #'s, 134.4 kb and no bitrate but it downloaded BY ITSELF, apparently when i downloaded a different song. it did not appear in the downloads section and when completed did not appear in library shared or saved. what is going on here? is this a virus issue? i have anti-virus and anti- spyware and scanning has shown nothing. any help would be appreciated, thanx.

was it an apple ipod?

These 134.4 kb files are a real pain. They are always at the top of the list and like you say sometimes have dashes between the words. If you put the cursor on the same line the "Browse Host" option becomes unavailable. Search for a music file and you get probably a notified fifty copies available, seach for the same thing two minutes later and they are all gone, plus if you search for a non-existent title you still get the top line showing lots of copies of the that non-existent title with the exact spelling you typed. If you click on the 134.4 line and then click "Block Host" it does come up with a number ID but that is no help really because the next search that brings up 134.4 has a different number ID. It wants someone who knows about hacking to find out who is behind these 134.4 files and identify him/her. I find Limewire of immense benefit, its such a pity that some anonymous idiot(s) should try and spoil it.

HE mean a image that have a ipod on it with a ads on it.

yeah that's it. I've seen search results at the top with u_n_d_e_r_s_c_r_e_s before and from my experience they have always been apple ipod ads so I never download them.

I just assumed it was Limewires way of making money but now after reading your post I see theres much more to it.

But I don't know how anyone could force a download like that, even if it was an executable file it would still require a double click of your mouse right?

My knowledge on computers and internet is quite limited but I would guess the culprit is viewing incoming searches then renaming his virus.exe to what he sees and in return his virus is added to your search results?

I see what you mean about the culprit altering his virus to the name you search for but how does he do it so fast: he must have written some program that checks every search. I looked for a song and the hit list came back with the top line being the song, listed as (43) 'title' 134.4 mp3. T1. Click on Block Host and it shows 69.9.188.218. Do the same search one minute later and get the same result for 134.4 kb and Block Host showing 60.24.60.135. Do the same search one minute later deliberately spelling one word wrong and it comes back with (26) my misspelled title 134.4 mp3 T1 and Block Host shows 88.124.128.80. Do the same again and spell two words wrong and it comes back again with (37) 134.4. mp3 T1, Block Host showing 69.174.80.176. So not only can this guy(?) alter his result title to fit. he alters his host address every time as well. Bearing in mind the number of searches worldwide on LW at any one time this is one clever program/virus? I am not computer literate enough to begin to know how he does it. I do appeal to him to stop - it may be clever but, quoting Carl Sagan, being a genius is no guarantee against being dead wrong.

i only HOPE its as easy as an apple ipod ad. how might we find limewire's take on this? i would imagine that block host works for whomever you downloaded it from, but theres 20-50 more ip #s right behind it.
