Grokster forced to shut down

The Supreme Court ruled against Grokster and the file sharing site anounced that it is shutting down. How does this impact on Limewire???????

Probably in the near future, but 4.9.37 is still working fine:) Perhaps LW were waiting to see what Grokster actually did ... Just a guess. but Frostwire will continue the Limewire tradition, if Limewire takes the road that is expected.

can i use frostwire if there is a computer running limewire in my house cos my housemate now has limewire pro and it screwed my basic package up

Only A Hobo November 7th, 2005 05:06 PM

er ... yes you can run Limewire on 1 computer and Frostwire on another in the house, but you cannot run the two applications sumultaneously on one computer.

When you say Limewire pro has "screwed my basic package up" I'm not atall sure what you mean, ........ but I'm tempted to ask how much did this Limewire pro cost??

reddia November 7th, 2005 06:03 PM

i had limewire basic the free version then my housemate saw how great it was and got pro which totally screwed my version

If it was the ligit pro version and you installed it properly, it wouldn't have screwed anything. Limewire runs very smoothly during an install.

as for this little P2P app: Queen once sang: "Another One Bites The Dust."

sorry to see it go. I used to use this.

I read where Grokster would not be offering any more downloads of their program, or updates. Does this mean that the program itself can function independent of a central "hub" or mother site? Can Limewire exist and function independently of it's head office or can it be shut down?

it is a ligit copy direct from www.limewire.com but several people say its cos me and my housemates computers are networked is this true

Khubla, Limewire has no central server, fo afaik, Closing down the company and stopping Limewire distributing software tomorrow would not have an imediate effect on the Gnutella network afaics. I could be wrong and welcome corrections.

Reddia, you say your package has been screwed, and with respect this covers a multitude of sins:) I really have no idea what you mean, and you have given us no useful facts.

well basically my housemate has limewire pro and i had limewire basic till he installed pro on his comp and as our comps are networked after he installed limewire pro my basic limewire kept starting multiple instances could this be due to the 2 computers being networked with a wireless router? though it seems irelavent now as i'm using frostwire but i'd still like to know why everytime i tried to use limewire basic (even from fresh downloads from www.limewire.com) it starts continuously? i hope this is enough info

Sphinx November 9th, 2005 06:44 AM

Personally, what you should have done with Pro is a fresh install and not do an install over basic because they are two different versions and might conflict with one another, other than that, I dont see any other reason for it to screwup as you say. if on two different computers then it shouldnt harm your basic version even if you are on the same network, if Im understanding you correctly? If multiple installs are in your add/remove you'll have to uninstall the rest and stick with one version, if its opening on its own, then it may have gotten infested from the gnutella network.
