Scammed by IP-MP3SUPPORT.NET

I'm brand new to file sharing and have just downloaded Limewire. Somehow I've been scammed by IP-MP3SUPPORT.NET into paying them £34 on my credit card. I feel really stupid that I fell for it. Does anyone know anything about how I can get my money back as I can't even find a website for this company.
Thanks

1. Membership? - **WARNING ** - Download p2p Clients ONLY Thru Official Sites last few pages!
2. get your $$$ BACK!!! (music members)

If no luck thru the company, contact the fraud dept of your credit card company. They will generally refund your money.

Thanks for the advice. I've looked at the 2 threads you listed to help me, unfortunately I'm one of the newbies who doesn't know what he paid for, didn't copy the terms and don't even know how to contact the company !!! Boy, have I learned a lesson, even the kids are laughing at me (until I tell them it's coming out of their allowance !)

lol :D At least you can work with your C/Card company fraud section to sort this out. BTW although that site was already listed here: Known Scam Sites, I've highlighted that site. Several people over the past couple of weeks have been caught out by them since the site came to our attention about 2 weeks ago. Also take the advice of "Fight Back" sentence here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=47801
The more people who complain, the more likely action will be taken against them. The link I gave is the Frostwire section, but same applies.

Have I been scammed too?

I was trying to find out how to contact Limewire as I have paid for extra things that I didn't want and realise now after reading the forum comments that I could have been scammed. The charge on my credit card is from MP3Support.Net. I have got
1 year full & unlimited Access for 11.88,
Pro Version Upgrade - Movie Codec Pack 9.97 and
NetSpyProtector Option 8.88

Should I have paid those amounts? I am VERY new to file sharing.

i would be grateful for any comments.

Lord of the Rings November 8th, 2005 07:07 AM

No you should never allow scam sites to get your money. Codecs are free!!! eg: CODECs list and alternate players for Movies

I think you'll find you only got LW Basic which is FREE at the official LW site: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml
LW Pro costs US $18.88 but you should always start with the basic version to see if you like it & to sort out any small problems with your setup if you have any. Shows About LW Pro will show whether you have LW basic or pro. But beware, lots of scam sites add adware, spyware, & even viruses to their programs. Some scam sites have a copy of the program on their server. Some simply give you a link to the LW downld page. I'd particularly beware of those that put it on their own servers. You don't know what they've done with it.

I know how you feel

dear mi111, don't get too upset, I did exactly what you've done and beat myself up for the next week.....I'll still have to pay the dosh and that's the bottom line. I'll take Lord of the Rings advice to try and stop these lowlifes, but I've written of my "hard-earned".

Lord of the Rings November 9th, 2005 08:43 AM

Many credit card companies will refund your money if you express yourself to the right dept. & give them as many details as you can. After all, they have the billing details anyway.
People on the forum have explained that their c/c co. refunded their outlay.

Di111 November 11th, 2005 04:36 AM

know how I feel

I have had to have my cc cancelled and they are sending me a claim form. So maybe lucky to get the money but doubt it. I feel such an idiot! I will let you know how it goes. One question though, what do I do now? Should I use what I have and download things? or do I need to start again?

Good to know there are people out there to ask, so thanks for that

Bad luck .... I hope you get the money. You should delete the Limewire you have as it is possibly filled with adware etc. along with preferences for it. I regularly delete all my browser cache and cookies... That would be a good idea too. Run a thorough Virus and spyware check, and then Download Limewire from

http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

Hope it goes well! :)

All you have to do is: like you did: call your cc card or bank, depending what kind of card you have and cancel out that transaction. You will most likely have to fillout fraud papers etc. Just alert them that you've been scammed/conned online. If they are decent and dont give you any grief, they should be able to cancel that out without a problem and it should show on your next card statement. DO NOT PAY for it! If you pay for that transaction, you WILL not be able to get your money back.

www. limewire.com is the only site to get Limewire from. The free google ads on top of this forum, is rather stupid because those are not limewire sites either.

anyway, you might also have to change your cc number becuase the scammers will use it. if you see any other funny charges on your card cancel that number ASAP!!! keep after your cc billing. Because sometimes, they dont do what they say they're gonna do for you.

Never be so willing to give out your credit card details online! Make sure that when you get your statement that transaction was cancelled from your bill.

also, I wouldnt use any fake version you bought. Id get rid of it and get the real limewire basic, it's free. gnutella is a free, open P2P network, you dont have to pay for any P2P app to connect to download from other users.

Thanks

Lord of the Rings/Sphinx, guys thanks for perservering with your advice. I took it to heart and phoned-up my credit card company again. this time I insisted they do something about this fruadulent transaction so they're sending me forms to hopefully cancel the transaction and follow-up on these lowlifes. So, now wiser and perhaps not much poorer !! Thanks again.

This has happened to me. I feel such a fool as I'm usually so careful about these things. Even when I mentioned it to my daughter and she told me I shouldn't have paid anything as Limewire's free it didn't register, it's only when I received my credit card statement and started surfing the internet for IP-MP3 SUPPORT that I realised I'd been had! Anyway, good news is that the credit card company have told me to deduct the amount from what I owe them and their fraud department will look into it. I've also got to go through the grief of starting up a new account and cancelling the existing card, but it's a small price to pay.

Yes, You can try to call them on this number which I just found on my account the minute I read your letter(I hope it's not too late). The number is 866-488-0790. I will try to do the same. Good luck to both of us and the rest of the people paid them. RJ.

ChrisDri September 3rd, 2006 02:08 AM

Update - this company took more money out of my credit card account 6 months later. I didn't realise until I got a letter from the bank threatening me with legal action for unpaid debt. When I pointed out to the bank that the account which had been used had been closed (on their instruction) and that I had not authorised a second transaction with IP-MP3SUPPORT.NET they eventually refunded me the money.

Romjuc September 3rd, 2006 09:47 AM

In a way, I use my bank card having my advantage on securing my account when I order or pay. They will refund money if there was an unlawful use or charge on my account and having a copy with the transaction with their phone numbers on it. It's been a year since I paid them so it's too late and all I can do now is to keep an eye on my account.

Mp3Support.com is one of the sites operated by Mp3 Networks Ltd, a company operating from the island of St Kitts..
It seems to be connected with Euclid Networks Ltd. (see previous this forum). St Kitts’ companies can remain fairly anonymous, a layman can’t easily find out who is on the board like you can in America, Canada, Australia, Britain etc; plus they are exempt from all taxes as long as they conduct their business exclusively with persons who are not resident in the (St Kitts) Federation, plus other duty exemptions. Although companies have to keep a register of members the register is kept at the company premises so the chance of Joe Public looking at it is fairly slim. As recently as this year the OECD includes St Kitts on a blacklist of nineteen countries which are not doing enough to stop money laundering. Some of the on-line gambling sites now on the internet are operating from St Kitts - from Armory Building, Basseterre. If you want to see just how many different sites operate from that address do a search for Armory Building (ie Armory named in honour of a person, not Armoury as in weapons). It also brings up the telephone number 1-866-240-2481 previously mentioned on this forum - its on the ‘Mp3downloading.com’. site and that site is “Operated by MP3 Networks Ltd. Armory building 3909, St-Kitts, Basseterre/Malta. This is the same number as that used by site ‘mp3justfree.com Tech support’, the footer on that site reading “This site is owned and operated by Euclid Networks inc, Basseterre, St-Kitts.“ Another site using the same number is “mp3-freebie.com” and that site too is operated by Euclid Networks. So there must be a link between Euclid Networks Inc and Armory Building, Basseterre, though not necessarily with any other company operating from that address. Lots of stories on the web from people telling of their experiences with Mp3downloading.com . The company, MP3 Networks Ltd, also lists its addresses as 271 Tower Rd. Sliema, SLM, 15531 Malta 356134422 .

It is possible that Euclid Networks is connected with some other company with Euclid in its name, such as Euclid Network Solutions Inc. or Euclid Networks Inc. The ‘dwnldsupport.com’ site has the identical billing page which is on site marketbill.com/contact except that the telephone number there is 866-488-0787. This second number is the same number as posted by member GeorgiaSellars 02-24-2006 on the Limewire Sticky “Download p2p Clients ONLY Thru Official Sites”. From independent sources the address of Euclid Networks Solutions Inc is or was 3180 De La Cruz Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95054, USA and an address for the company Euclid Networks Solutions Inc (note the ‘s’ on Network) is or was 2665 N First St. 300, San Jose, CA 95134, USA. The USA Telephone Directory as of June 2006 shows Euclid Inc is listed at 2665 North 1st Street Suite 300, San Jose, CA 95134 Tel (408) 790-2600 and Euclid (ie just plain Euclid on its own) is listed at 3211 Scott Boulevard, Santa Clara, CA 95054 Tel (408) 213-0391. Not known whether these companies are connected.

Check the very top of Known Scam Sites (click on link) for links & links to links to find the best places to report to (all within 1st paragraph.) The more reports there are, the faster these people will be busted & sent packing .... at least closed down for business. ;)
