Where are all these files? hey people, when using a couple of spywear/viruscans (AVG and ad aware) the scans scan files i cannot find on my computer it seems they are every single one of Limewires 100,000's of files! the path is C:\Documents and Settings\David Gardiner\Complete but i cant find the files on my computer (i cant see the complete folder) and when i search for the complete folder i get nothing! can someone please help |
Did you update the virus scanner? http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/security/fwvirus.html If you go to this site: they have freeware tools for anti virus programs. I use the AntiVir XP free edition and it detects EVERY single virus that is new and old. all you do is let it automatically update and scan your system. I use this program and it has saved my hard drive many times. Im not fond of AVG. The AntiVir XP scanner works very fast and it will alert you of any viruses that are lurking in your system. Sounds like you have a stubborn virus somewhere on your computer that the AV isnt detecting. edited to add: if thats not the case: look in your doc settings folder in the Limewire 'shared' folder. Your LW files should be there, if not, I'd still AV scan your system anyway. |
thanks iv sorted the problem, for others, i had to go into folder options and un-hide the files that make the comp work, and the "complete" folder was in docs and settings get this tho, it was 8Gb! deleted now : ) , but no Limeire : (, is it possible to have LW but not lose 8Gb of memory? |
What do you mean by unhide? You should have only a shared limewire folder for all your uploads/downloads and maybe a subfolder for any additional files. I dont recommend deleting certain files that are hidden on your system though. what did you delete? In your windows document/settings folder, all you limewire folders/prefs. are stored there. Im not sure why you would use up a lot of memory in LW as its pretty lite weight and shouldnt really use up all that much. Its not known to be a mem hog. what version of Limewire are you using and where did you get it?? if your drive fillsup with unwanted files then that could only mean you got hit with a virus. |
Sphinx, do you only have the free AV or do you have another paid for one as well, because Im due for Norton renewal next week and if the one you suggest is good I might go for that.::) |

http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/se...avspecial.html here's some freeware ones. http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/security/fwvirus.html and here is where I got the Anti Vir XP feeware edition. Its fast and will scan your entire hard drive and you get free updates. It stays current and as I have said: it has saved my hard drive many times. I dont pay for any fancy Av's. This is the best free one I have seen out there. You can update it daily or weekly. I scan my drive with this after every Limewire use. ;) |
Cool thanks for the insight, I'll check it out...;) |
Just to let you know if you download/install the free Anti Vir and you go to let it update, a popup will appear advertising to buy the pro, just click to close it down and the updates will continue. |
