Hey Hobo, Well thats confusing, why would a search on LW for thumbs be a db ? Would you know why I have a thumbs file (in red) in my saved file in LW and it keeps getting bigger, I dont know where it came from, I try to delete it but it just keeps appearing and growing.

Thanks mate for your time ;)

Hi Wondering Why. I just typed a belated reply ... This was an intriguing question and I hadn't the slightest idea what you were on about .... and we had a bloody power cut ... So: Start again:)

http://www.greece.k12.ny.us/taylor/tips/thumbs_db.htm Should explain a bit about Thumbs (Thumbnail) files, but I also discover Thumbs is something you can use in Firefox for searching for porn sites ...alledgedly but I think that is not relevant:)

I guess it's a windows thing. I did a LW search just now for thumbs and got piles of results for db files , so it seems like lot's of people are sharing these. It seems they are hidden by default, which might explain it.

Heres another link that looks very useful.

http://www.ftpplanet.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/000174.html and follow the link in the top post

I am not sure why you should have one of these in your share folder unless you share images ... anyway I hope this helps:)

Thankyou so much Hobo, I was worried they may have been a virus or something, Im still a little confused in why music files contain these thumbs, thats what I downloaded yesterday and I had heaps of thumb and image files in my LW saved folder in red. I have since deleted them, I will go and check the hidden files that your link suggested....And thankyou again for taking the time to help ;)

I'm just wondering if any of the files you have downloaded have album art. I know these show up differently in windows, and that COULD be an explanation.

Ok there you go whats album art ? lol ;)

Only A Hobo November 14th, 2005 04:48 PM

Welll ... in iTunes and other apps I assume .. you can see the album cover of a song whilst it's playing IF it has been attached to the id3 tag which accompanies the mp3. In Mac afaik the image remaind within the id3 tag, but I gather it works a bit differently in Windows and some windows users have talked about having jpg filed in their shared folder, which turned out to be album art.

If I have an album, I can go to the artists web site, or Amazon and copy the album cover and paste it into the label in iTunes and if I share the file it will go with it. I don't normally do this, since they are so damn small you can't see them and Windows users don't seem to like them.:)

Yep now I got you, and I think thats what Im getting with the LW aspect of thumb files, but does everyone, as you said in the beginning of our thread its not something you see all the time?

Only A Hobo November 14th, 2005 05:01 PM

Well I get the feeling reading the forums that most users don't even know where their save folder is LOL :):) Seriously, I have no idea how common these are as they don't appear in Mac, but very few of the files I get have artwork on them. A recent thread said that some joker was putting Britney Spears pictures an absolutely everything. Ugh ... how terrible:) Thankfully I haven't come across that:)

Well It's late here and cold so I'm off to bed. Damn I suppose it's a hot Summer afternoon with you. What are you doing on the computer LOL:)
