terms

I have just joined Limwire and I need a couple of questions answered please. Do I have to pay any more if I changed to pro?
I am on broadband 2mg can I select t1 or t3 to get the download I want or do I have to stick to cable/dsl? and what does the terms wmf, mpg, avi and al the the rest of these terms mean?.
I am sorry if I have used the wrong forum for my queries. I cannot seem to find the answer in any help files or forum, perhaps I am looking in the wrong place thank you syndrome

Dont waste your money on Pro. Basic works just the same, you dont have to pay to download from the Gnutella network and paying for it doesnt make you go any faster, you can only go as fast as your ISP allows you to. Pro is only qorth it if you are a heavy downloader, if not then stay with basic. But if you want to get it go here: www.limewire.com any other site is a scam. You are downloading the same files from Gnutella whether you pay or dont pay. LW might go bellyup pretty soon, so, if I were you Id hold off until the next release. ;)

While I do agree Pro and Basic are pretty much the same there are some differences depending on your connection. I will attempt to clarify these differences as best I can.

If you have dial-up, dsl, adsl or some of the slower connections you will see virtually no difference in basic an pro. But if you have a fast cable 500+KB/s, T1, T3 or any other high speed connection you will see a noticeable difference.

I currently have cable with 900KB/s capabilities when running pro I Will get on most files 10 sources and will average around 200KB/s and with basic I will get 6 to 8 sources and average 100 to 140KB/s so as you can see there is a noticeable difference.

Also when running basic I almost never max out my capabilities but with Pro I frequently do. Also when searching for rare files I will find more sources using Pro thus more KB/s.

In conclusion for the average user there is probably no advantage to Pro but for those searching for rare files and those with high speed connections there is a noticeable difference.

I also do not believe that buying pro is a waste of money for no other reason than the developers of LimeWire do allot of work to improve the software and deserve our support, you can not feed a family on good will alone.

And if anybody wishes to use the argument that future versions are going to be worthless because of the licensing restrictions and thus not worth our support. My reply would be maybe, maybe not they Will still be developing the core of the software and it will still be open source so that others like the FrostWire crew can still use the upgraded versions.

The bottom line is in my opinion LimeWire Pro will always be worth the money.

thank you

Yes I have paid for it and I very worried that I will lose a lot more money. Thanks for a prompt reply. I will do as you suggest and cancell my card and remove all files

what version

When I go into program --Limwire it shows me that I am using 4.8.1, but when I open limewire from desk top icon it shows that the version is 4.9.37 am on basic or pro I tried to find out how to contact the vendors but it seems I can't. I also put my email addy into the pro box and it says it cannot find me. I am a little confused to say the least. thanks again

I was always told by experts that you cant download any faster than your ISP allows you too.
The above is a true statement.

I hate to know what you Pro people are gonna do if Limewire goes under.
Use FrostWire which I currently use most of the time. But dare I say that without the financial support that some provide LimeWire would not be what it is today. ;)

syndrome:

sounds to me you got conned by going to a scam site selling the old version of Pro or passing off the free basic as pro.

if you got conned/scammed cancel that transaction and make sure you report it as fraud to your cc company right away as soon as possible.

Grandpa November 25th, 2005 07:23 PM

Sorry you can't use that one either read my last post at the link below. There is no Pro version of WinMx.

Grandpa November 25th, 2005 07:42 PM

Yes it is but it still is up and running and I still use it occasionally

Grandpa November 25th, 2005 08:11 PM

They started the net on some diffrent servers and made a patch for WinMx so people could connect to it.
