Limewire Falsely Detecting Firewall

Hello, this is my first post, I looked and it this seemed the most appropriate place for this topic. I'm using Limewire version 4.9.33 with Windows XP, 256MB Video Card, 1gb Ram, AMD 3000 64 CPU and I access the internet with 1.5 speed DSL. I don't think all that info is necessary but better safe than sorry. My issue is that Limewire is giving me the little brick wall when I open it and says that a firewall has been detected. I've checked and my firewall is disabled. Is this normal or should I not worry about it? Their doesn't seem to be any I'll effects from it, but then again I am new. My downloads speeds within limewire vary but I've never seen it above 40kb/s and it's usually around 10kb/s for a file. I'm thinking that's slow but again I don't know. If someone could direct me to some information that would help me make sure that limewire is optomized for the fastest possible speeds and also help me with the firewall detection issue I would appreciate it. Thank You.

If you are using a router there may be a firewall in it 40KB/s would be about max for most DSL connections you can do a speed test at the link below. If LimeWire is able to search and others are able to download from you I would not worry about it.

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ U.S.

http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/ban...eedtest50.html U.K.

If you are not using a router and connect directly to your DSL modem check and make sure your modem software didn't install a firewall as well. I had a similiar problem and after checking with my DSL help files and the modem manufacturer found out I needed to disable my modem firewall. I had to do this online and received instructions on how to do this through my DSL (Alltel) help section.

After I disabled the modem firewall I am still using the XP firewall with no problems. I wouldn't recommend disabling all your firewalls when using DSL.

Please let me know if this helped.

Good Luck,
Dave

strtngfrsh,
This happens to me every now and then, despite having firewall configured and port forwarding in place. My searching's not effected and uploading is going as usual. If this is the case for you then, as Grandpa said, don't worry about it too much;)

I have been using LimeWire for about a year now I have had speeds of 1-140 (DSL). Cannot figure that out either. maybe it is affected by # of users on when I download.......
