Limewire sort it out :(

As i am not used to writing in forums I will make this short :)

I like limewire , but it is now becoming a pain in the **** ( *** for the USA) :)

Limewire get paid xxxx amount of money for devlopment to their own strand of an exsisting network , I am but just one of these subscribers.

So Limewire , I ask that you do two things:

1: Positivley approach Virus within your network , Ie 851.7

2: Allow Limewire users to block any network that we wish ( I understand that we can do this on an individual basis however I feel most users would like the option to block an entire network)

To all that may read this post ,

If you agree with what I've posted please just reply:

The Gnutella network does not belong to LimeWire, LimeWire is just the app that takes you there. They have no control over What people share on it. The available material belongs to other users just like yourself. So the only ones that can control the content are the users themselves.

A little common sense goes a long way :)

I understand what you are saying , however limewire does have it within their power to give Limewire users the option to ban outside parties....

I think that is an option that Limewire dedicated users would like to see , after all we have paid for it

Whats this all about ?

I make one little post and the avent gard comes out ,,,,, first Grandpa and now you.................?????????????

Makes you think?

So I stand by my original post , I would like the option for normal users to respond to my post at least they are unbiased

1. LW is working on a spam filter so those types of results will also most likely also be filtered. In the meantime, ignore files less than 1 MB aka 1,000 KB is size. Take the tip here autogenerated mp3 spam results about double-clicking the size column as soon as you hit the search button.
In regards to the network, well as these forums show, there's many gnutella programs out there & more. As for the network content, see Quality of Content on the Network

2. I'm not in the habit of blocking hosts. But apparently it is possible to also block particular gnutella clients (I haven't explored this option so can't explain how.) I don't believe that will solve your & others issue though. It will simply give you less clients & sources to downld from. And we don't want the network being only shared by LW. As it is, LW has 'some' preference for connecting to other LW users. Also the question arises about why blocking anyone? If it's due to the content they're sharing then they may be a person who has accidentally downlded some files (without checking all their shares for some time) that aren't what they had intended to downld. eg: incorrectly labelled files or incorrect size or spam, etc.

LW has an automatic ban system against clients that make too many repeated requests (hammering at the connection.) This gets rid of unfriendly gnutella network programs & versions that don't behave in the gnutella network community spirit & accepted manner & protocol.

In future, please don't double-post. Your other thread was merged with this one. 1st warning. Forum Rules (click here)

Heres an idea stop downloading/stealing software & games, then, you wont have to see the viruses/trojans in your searches but, since you wont do that because its better to steal then come here and then post a topic that has been posted a thousand times already.

Users are responsible for the content to provide for downloading no P2P can filter it all out, so, live with it or stop stealing pirated software.

What's this about downloading/stealing thigns? What are you doing on the gnuetella network if not that? just an innocent ? since I can't immage what other use someone would have for it.

i vote no!

on the all inclusive network block.
i have had people from all over the world up-load from me. (and chatted with some)i'm quite sure i've down-loaded from around the world.
i don't have a problem with different networks? sharing.
more = faster.
i'm happy with the OPTION to block individuals. i just wish there was a universal list of them! then i could block them all!!!

(1) when are we ALL going to take responsibility for our actions?? hmm? we all know viruses & such are out there, you can either get rid of your computer or grow up and realize there ARE bad things in the world. why don't you attack the J*** A** that puts the virus there?, instead of L W.
even if you only got one song off L W, you ought to be grateful. i am!

p.s. 'course, i'm on basic, what do i know? :D

Grandpa January 6th, 2006 03:59 PM

Atta Boy me d, But you do realize you just said one of the dirtiest words in the world (Responsibility) Because if we all took responsibility for our own actions who could we blame when something goes wrong. Ouch that might heart if we had to say that was my fault.

Grandpa January 6th, 2006 04:16 PM

Well ya know how it is when you are getting older then the forum server slows down to a snails pace. I just couldn't seem to remember if I had pushed the dam reply button. Guess I had but you just had to notice.:D

And I am getting ready to break something it is time for the quarterly reformat and re install. So for about the next 4 or 5 hrs if I am lucky I am going to be cussing, yelling, cussing, throwing, breaking, then fixing.:D :D

how did i get 4.10.2?

i just checked my version of L W at Help>About Limewire.
4.10.2 & 1.4.2_03 for Java.
am i running on the wrong version??
the front page of the forum has latest version as 4.10.0.
p.s. ..hobo i just went to your link.

me d January 6th, 2006 05:41 PM

beats me....

i ran i full scan today, knocked out my shortcut again. browsed to find L W again.
i'm not sure how that works, but it seems to be re-installing.
at least i don't have to search web to find L W, then re-install.

i do use ext tooltips & junk thing.:D

me d January 7th, 2006 07:25 AM

no phex

i un-installed phex. not too keen on patronization.
i realize alot of us are genuine "pups" but to talk to someone, trying to learn, like they are children is not cool. then the explanations are not easy to follow. maybe if they had limewire format??? hmmm...silly me, you did say it wasn't for newbies.

i D L 1 song last night just to find the shared folder. my spyware came up and told me there was a danger & they couldn't delete the file. i deleted it, without opening. never did see where it went! all the songs are at least 1,000,000 bytes? what the hey is that? if i have to "bitzi" every song from phex, i'll go to the store. i'm gonna try L W on the other user today. btw videos are on hold for now.
p.s. speaking of pictures, that just got bumped again, i have a new toy to play with. MP3 player.:D

me d January 9th, 2006 06:11 AM

but i AM an idiot newbie!lol

perception is a son-of-a-b****, my bad. i ASSumed it was all-american. it's hard to get used to this WORLDLY thing.

all the songs i searched for, (many) are formatted as 1 to 4 million size. i don't know if that's bits or bytes. not like L W, normal size songs are 1,000 to 11,000 kb. i did try searching by size, still came up by millions. first song virus, was prob an omen. "get off this program!" anyway too old to have to think that hard.

i did set up L W on the other user. saturday i ran both at the same time all day. slows down U L alot tho. i started with normal (T1) settings. 9 U P on music, 5 U L on the video side. also D L a 4 disc album (63 songs) for myself. D L wasn't affected by speed. only D L from one side.

mp3 player for B'day is fantastic. it changes alot of file ext automatically. just drag & drop! most of MY stuff is mp3 & wma. but D L's are a mixture. very easy to use, thus far.

p.s. b'friend's B'day same as mine. his present is still trying to get here. 62" HD Sony. bet that will make him feel better! :D
