Thank you I really appreciate you by reading and answering my quiestion!! |
You can visit the site and read carefully about the Pro version. Im not a Pro user but, you pay 18.88, and then you will get 6 months free updates and you might have to renew again, Im really not sure how that part works, Im sure a experienced Pro user will jump in to correct me if im wrong. Beware of the scam sites the official site is the only place to buy Pro from: www.limewire.com. |

Hobo, what does Bill Gates have to do with paying for a P2P pro version of an app that you can get for free and does the samething as a paid version? What does Bill Gates have to do with Limewire???? LOL. Talk about comparing apples & oranges. Im entitled to my opinion, I didnt knock Pro now did I? I encourged him or her to go buy it from the official site. sheesh.:p |
Actually, i do like the turbo-charged feature. If the file you want has loads of hosts you can have more than 10 hosts(Limewire free doesn't allow more than 10 hosts), but if its a file that not many people have then its pretty useless (i had a file download from 14 hosts today, dont know what the limit on hosts is tho) |
chivagirldecorazon if you repurchase at or around the 6 mth point, you do get a small discount. You'll get an email from customer support/sales with the short time offer. Yes pro does help with finding particularly the harder to find files. OOB searching is greatly enhanced also!!! (or so it seems to me!) BTW if you haven't tried LW yet, then use LW Basic 1st to learn about it & see how you feel about it. Then consider pro (more of a donation if anything to the future development of both LW & the gnutella network.) The turbo connection helps with searches, 5 peers helps with searches, & other subtle small under the bonnet improvements also improve performance. But the average user might not notice particular differences. Better searches means more sources & consistent & better results ultimately in the long run compared to basic. |
are you with pro or free. with free i could connect to 3 ultras or as an ultra i could connect to 30 peers. with pro i can connect to 5 ultras or as an ultra i can connect to 60 peers |
Software Sphinx & Hobo Both of your opinions are valid, but I am more inclined to lean in Hobo's direction because I believe that the programmers of LW & LW Pro deserve some recompense for their efforts. I am also a buyer of small niche applications that the big boys won’t touch, for example I have recently bought an app that allows me to incorporate and use PDF documents within MS Word 97. And I have recently purchased a small fax software that has more facilities than those offered by MS Fax, e.g. it will send faxes to machines that are older and slower than the latest available. Again, I believe that the makers of these small apps deserve a reward for the time and effort they have put into developing these apps. To conclude, there is space out there for both free and paid for software to exist and it’s just a matter of personal taste which one you prefer. UK Bob |
