is p2p illegal?? can i get in trouble with the law??
 
limewire is my main mp3 dl program and i have about 100 or so songs from it. is filesharing illegal in the U.S.? Can the government get involved? Can i get sued and is there any precautions i can take to lower these chance?? Those are just some questions i have.

any replies or help is greatly accepted

most files are copyrighted and yes those files are illegal to download and share. But, you can find files that are not copyrighted. Don't ask me how.

The only reason P2P became illigal in the first place was because the RIAA discovered Napster the first time around. Everything is copyrighted period, from games/movies/software/MP3's. If you are that paranoid then keep your file shares set to a low number and dont go over the thousand plus limit or the RIAA spybots will scan your IP. Just play it safe and happy downloading. ;)

so i can basically dl songs as long as i dont go overboard?? what happens if i un-share my files.....does that change anything?? and whats the deal with those spybots or w/e they are, what do they do?

Technically you can download, just not distribute or copy to another form of storage (eg. cd)
