Default VLC on the rocks?

I've just seen this on the VLC site. It seems as if the European parliament want to outlaw VLC ... Have the RIAA have been putting something in their water

AFAIK that sign has been up on the VLC site for quite a few mths. It "was" in regards to the EU's licencing concept in regards to copyrights, bla blah blah .. can't remember the details. But I was under the impression that was already voted down ... but I'm not up on present situations in that area.

The concept being it would destroy freeware & particularly Open Source projects!

Well what prompted me to post was this

"""During the night of 22nd to 23rd December 2005, while everybody is preparing for Christmas, the French Parliament will rule about the "DADVSI" law. This vote will be made with minimal discussion, as an "emergency" has been declared on this law.""" and that is very soon

I'm not quite sure what this says .. on the French news page http://eucd.info/

"""Agissez ! Sauvez VLC et les logiciels libres de lecture de DVD !
dimanche 4 décembre 2005 :: Actualités
Depuis quelques jours, une bannière s'affiche sur le site du célèbre lecteur multimédia libre VLC (plus 10 millions de téléchargements pour la dernière version) développé en partenariat avec l'École Centrale Paris. Elle conduit à une page dédiée au DADVSI.""" and continues with the above message in French

but the words "The message has been there a few days" seem to be there and the date is yesterday.
