What's the real story here?
 

I'll start off here:
My friend told me that Limerwire, as of January 14, will be illegal. He said that the FBI will be getting people that have used it, and hundreds of thousands of dollars will be charged if you don't pay for the songs you've downloaded.

Here's the thing, he said that his dad told him this, and that his dad would pay for the songs if he got A's on his report card. 1st issue: I'm thinking his dad may have made it up to get him to get good grades (because he's a dumb kid who has terrible grades). Also, I don't know all the laws about this stuff, but I long ago uninstalled and removed all Limewire folders from my computer when told it was illegal. My computer has no trace of it as far as I can find, so how could people find out if I've used it in the past? And lastly, the story seems a little shaky when he said either you pay for the songs or you pay $100,000.

Anybody have comments/help/replies?

I think dad might have blown his cover by mentioning the FBI ....afaik.. (idiot welsh black sheep lover that I am) this is not their department. January 14th hmm that was the day someone called lotr posted a message on a message board that Limewire should charge for their product ..."" I would pay $20-$30 shareware registration fee for one of these applications."" oh that was in 2002.... I wonder ....
