Firewall problem

I'm sorry if I put this in the wrong part of the forum.
Anyway, what my problem is that Limewire tells me that my Firewall is blocking my Internet when really, I don't have one up atm. Never happened to me before. Anyone know why?

So...anybody know the problem?

Hi 1337_,
You have to give a bit more info;)
Is your connection ok? Is it just the firewall icon showing or are you getting an error msg?
Can you download? Can people upload from you? Are you using a router that may be causing problems?
Give a description of your set-up:
OS
Any firewalls running (including Win firewall)
Modem/router brand & model number
LW & Java version
Connection type (dial-up, cable/dsl etc)
Where are you connecting from ( home, work etc)

Be patient & wait for someone to reply. In the meantime, you could do a search (top right, between faq and home) for 'firewall' or something similar. Also, have a look at the various stickies in different sections of the forum. You might find some answers there:D

Thanks for replying. Anyway:

My connection is ok, it's just saying that I have firewall.

I can download fine. People can upload from me. I have my router set up fine. All the ports forwarded. I also use Azureus(bittorrent client) and it works fine.

No firewalls running.

Modem/router brand & model number

Sppedstream 5200 modem. Linksys BEFSR41v3

LW & Java version

Limewire is the latest version. Not sure about Java.

Connection type (dial-up, cable/dsl etc)

DSL connection. 256k

Where are you connecting from ( home, work etc)

Home. My ISP is Sympatico.

Hi 1337_,
I don't have a clue. Since your downloads & uploads don't seem to be effected, it can't be too bad.
When I run FrostWire, I get the firewall icon showing now & then but my d/l & u/l are fine...I just live with it. The icon eventually goes away.

Maybe one of the forum gurus:D can give you an explanation?? There's a thread titled "Limewire Falsely Detecting firewall", a few posts down in this section...maybe have a read of that.

Sorry I can't be of help

Follow the instructions in the link below for activating UPnP in you router.

Thanks, I'll check it. Anyway, I've tested my DL speed and it's usually like 60k when I've got like 7 hosts. Is that bad? Whatever, anyway, if I don't get it fixed, I can live with it :P

I've port forwarded(did that ever since I had Limewire and it worked fine and fast) and I set my UPnP up and it still isn't working. I wonder if it's just the icon malfunctioning...heh.

jay173 December 15th, 2005 07:47 PM

if it works dont fix it, why do you think you have firewall issue?

Grandpa December 15th, 2005 09:20 PM

Did you configure LimeWire to use UPnP go to tools/options/advanced/firewall config and tick UPnP the icon should go away. Unless you have another firewall somewhere

You can do a speed test at the links below
